Imouto-chan is frank and direct, I'll give her that.

So the whole Bloomers uniform is a thing from the past? I never looked it up, but it makes sense, i always though it felt like a relic from the 60s.

This yuri explains the history of bloomers and their current status in Japanese high schools: https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/yuugai_shitei_doukyuusei_ch05#5

"Normal is different for everyone" - listen to the little sister, she speaks the truth.

It's Japan. People will reserve seats by leaving their cell phones.

What is marriage supposed to do, even? It's not like you need to get married to fuk and give birth to children anyway.
And it's not like you can't live with the person you like if you're just friends or romantic partners.

Legal rights.
Things like access to your spouse if they are hospitalised, making decisions for your spouse if they are incapacitated, tax breaks, and inheritance rights in the event of your spouse's death (instead of your partner's family taking away everything from you).

For example: Imagine if you're not married and your partner falls terminally ill and you are barred from visiting or even have access to the status of your partner or make medical decisions for them because you're not 'family', and then they kick the bucket and you were kept in the dark because you were not 'family', and you can't even make funeral arrangements or see them off, and you're homeless because the house you and your partner shared was under their name and their family comes to legally take it all away, even though you unofficially paid for it together with your partner.

If these Walls Could Talk 2. Imagine being with you love for DECADES. But, when she dies, the family comes to settle her affairs and treat you like you don't exist. Worse yet, you have no rights to the home, property, the remains, you can't even carry out her wish to be buried in her favorite dress or have her favorite flowers at her funeral. In the eyes of the law, you're basically a stranger.

It's also a matter of being treated as equal by society. By gatekeeping marriage and adoption from same sex partners the goverment is basically saying you aren't a real family.

To be fair, most of this stuff can be handled without marriage. Power of attorney, inheritance, emergency contact, etcpp. Depends on local laws what exactly you can do, but it's not necessarily necessary to marry for that.

You'd have to look more into the historical function of marriage to see why human societies develop the concept (wealth and power, what else ^^. Nowadays it's 98.3% cultural tradition.

Hunter gatherers with egalitarian structures and no wealth still have versions of marriage.

I'd say marriage is an expression of jealousy. "This person is mine, hands off". Plus a commitment to stay together and raise the kids.
