Alva in chapter 4 felt incredibly relatable.

Oh damn, where have I seen this kind of art style before?!

I think it was even on this site, but I can't recall where...

Update:

I just realized why it has the "Official" tag, I think: this translation is probably done by, or with the express approval of, the artist. It's not that this is an official manga for a series, but rather an officially sanctioned English version.

Which is also pretty cool!

The art style still has me wondering, though. It's very atypical for (Japanese) manga, and the artist's name is about as non-Japanese as it gets (even taking into account the usual types of pen names!). But it sure looks like it's set in Japan, so ...who knows?

I'm pretty sure they aren't Japanese though; probably some flavor of SEA if I had to guess. Thai or Indonesian, if you put a gun to my head. If they are Japanese, they are a massive westaboo, because there's very little reason for anyone in that country to be familiar with all those little references and phrasing things the way they do.

Also I'm reasonably sure Patreon is accepted in Japan. Technically yes, but it's tricky to deal with, apparently?

I agree I actually really like the art and I kinda relate to Layla back when I was in High School I was the quiet introverted girl with pink or purple hair or whatever I decided at any given time and the main reason I kept to myself is I had no idea how to talk to people once I got around that age.

Layla x Mia right? I think she's gonna be the one to help bring her out of her shell fully.

I do love that Tenda doesn't like people bad mouthing and it isn't just Layla so it's not like she just feels bad her shitty was badmouthing others and she told her off still.

Alva I don't know yet. Seeing that she knows how shy and awkward Layla is I do hope she is another that helps her come out of her shell. I'd love for her to try and use the extra same method her brother used to get close to her and make it a competition.

Also I pray Layla doesn't make a fool of herself in the next chapter when she goes into offense mode lol.

I checked their youtube videos and the VAs at least definetly sound Indonesian.

Hey, Nawar Dagher here, the creator of this manga.
Thanks for reading! I read—and will keep reading—all your comments.
(And no, Goldenbrown and Lilaja, I’m not Indonesian, I’m Arabic.)
(Also, iuninthoron: “that’s what she said.”)
If you like the series, here are some links you might enjoy:
Here are the MangaDex and Webtoon links if you want to read and follow the series there:

I also have a YouTube channel with a lot of content about the manga, and more is coming—like a voice-acted video of Chapter 1:

The artstyle is super interesting. It reminds of some horror animated stories I have come across on random 3am doomscrolling sessions... which seems like it should be weird for a slice of life manga, but somehow works with this anxious protagonist.

^^ Wow, I didn't expect it being from an Arab author, will definitely read.

I Love this, Nawar Dagher, please keep making stuff. The art is incredible and really expressive. Literally no one is doing your charcoal pencil style, The depictions of anxiety, through the rambling internal dialogue and art are so raw and well executed that it makes the whole work shine. In those moments it reminds me a bit of Milk Inside a Bag of Milk, or maybe Mission-chan. honestly Id love more focus on the anxiety and introspection but i think an artist should go wherever their heart takes them.
There are a few awkwardnesses to the english, and i think the structural writing, as in like themes and plot are kinda flat at times. I feel like the interiority of some of our other characters here feels underbaked, what are they anxious about? Do we need more characters before we have even explored our first three? What are their goals? Largely it seems like each chapter is written independently of each other which can give it a stiltedness, where is the story going?

So rarely do you get this much soul from a yuri work but thats probably becuase most of what we read here on dynasty are works by professional mangaka with editors, rather than early, naive works that have yet to find themselves.

I’m writing this mostly for the author, knowing she reads the comments here. Thanks for posting this out here, great idea since piracy and free stuff is the only way art gets to the masses these days. And i somehow worry that, well if our main character’s authentically written anxiety is anything to go by, that our artist could be scared off by negativity, especially since there is a lot i feel is missing, i want her to know that she’s made something genuinely powerful at times and to keep at it.

Gosh i really gotta learn to draw and make my own yuri.

I love that yuri is so tied to the japanese school setting that the setting becomes mythic, almost required in yuri works, even if none of us experienced it, we lived its myth through our favorite genre and need to express ourselves through these tropes.

I was going like, “oh youu~” the whole time I was reading this—thanks for the kind words and feedback (I’ll definitely keep it all in mind). And yeah, I guess some chapters feel a bit deconstructed because I like to mess with readers and keep them guessing… but maybe I’m overdoing it.
I mean, I was sweating while reading this because I’m planning to release a side chapter after chapter 6, introducing new characters. It’s separate from the main story (even the art style is different).
And you’re welcome about the free post—people have actually been really helpful and generous with tips, so you should thank them too. Also, shoutout to Dynasty Scans for finally posting it here, since I’ve been nagging them about it for ages.
About the school setting: I don’t really think of it as “Japanese.” Where I live, the school system and the overall look aren’t that different from what you see in manga. I even based the school uniform on real high school uniforms from my country (minus the hijab).

Hey there, the artist of the manga here.
First of all—“westaboo”? How dare you! (I mean, you’re 100% right though.)
Second, the manga isn’t Japanese. It’s originally written in English—there’s no translation of it. Although I did see a Portuguese translation a while ago, so that’s nice.
Oh, also, I’m Arabic by the way, and homosexuality is considered a crime in my country, so you better appreciate the sacrifice. (jk)
