On one hand, it can come off as trite or contrived, to have this sort of drama, but on the other hand, I know full well how easy it is to get caught up in your own head, and how hard it can be to pull out of that kind of mire. And Mai is pure and clueless enough that she's unlikely to figure it out for herself. Hopefully Runa can clear the air!

I think the drama is pretty mild, and it's fine to have a little bump on the road before we coast into a happy ending. I'm guessing next chapter they'll talk and their relationship will be strengthened by the communication.

That's how the series has been, yeah. I agree. Don't see the issue with this one. She's insecure and our MC was being thoughtful but can't read minds so missed the signal. Seems about right. Story will have drama eventually. This series resolves everything very quickly.

I like that she's continuing to undergo these changes though; now that she's genuinely in love all these unfamiliar emotions are coming out. Plus their differences were used here well. A lot of the miscommunication comes from one being human and one being part something else. Our MC was treating her differently based on her demon status and needs which inadvertently neglects her human needs. That seems like a cool approach.

Wahhh, only 5 more chapters left? By principles I'm really happy the author has a reasonable scope for their story and is getting to finish it on their terms at an appropriate length. But I've enjoyed this so much and the chapters have come so regularly (thank you translation team!), it's been such a comfort to me during it's run. Such bittersweet feelings... perhaps like a dark chocolate parfait...

In my defense I’ve only read the novels. I don’t know what the manga did with it.

The manga was faithful to the LNs. I think maybe they don't like the plot or political focus? Once they get going (and deal with important issues), our MCs aren't really slow.
