Going by the eight seven cardinal vices, I propose an alternative to the "Mai's mom's an angel"-theory: What if, instead, she's a demon of gluttony? With all due respect, parfaits are intrinsically about the pleasure of eating for eating's sake, and (lacking formal education) she seems to have a natural talent for them.

Anyway, going for the sexual-assault fake-out was not something I expected from this series (it's rare in yuri anyway, isn't it? I mostly recall it as an otome-trope). It's thematically fitting, but caught me off-guard compared to the previous teasing.

Considering that Mai said "let's try again when you aren't drunk", I don't think Mai's main worry was about them rushing into things. Also, I think the author's main reason for writing a convenient plot device to keep Lily and Mai from having sex is that a lot of the manga's humor is based on contrasting Lily's literal words with how Mai's imagination responds to those words. And since Mai's imagination is heavily impacted by her lack of experience, it makes sense that for those jokes to go on the author needs to keep finding reasons like raisins making Lily drunk for why they can't have sex on a particular occasion.

Not the first time i see someone claim that though, I wonder where it originates from?

I used to think "speculoos" was actually a sort of brand name (and alternative spelling) of the manufacturer Lotus, so I decided to look it up and it seems that they're alternate spellings, but also different cookies depending on the region. The "speculaas" from the Netherlands is different from the "speculaas" in Belgium, and apparently some manufacturers deliberately call their product "speculoos" to avoid this misunderstanding (https://www.vlaanderen.be/team-taaladvies/taaladviezen/speculaas-speculoos). Speculoos cookies are made of sugar candy syrup or caramelised sugar and may contain cinnamon. From my own experience (in the Netherlands) speculoos also tastes different from speculaas.

The thingy about the origin of "speculoos" is also still speculative (https://royale.nl/nl/actueel/item/17-speculaas-vs-speculoos).

I should've researched it a little more and do realise I made some mistakes, so I fixed the note to make it more complete. Thanks for pointing it out though!

I checked and there actually is a difference in the spices used, but the name actually being different was created through marketing by Lotus Bakeries
rather than an organic historic development. Speculoos don't contain most of the spices usually in speculaas (just cinnamon) and add in caramelized sugar, but prior to Lotus rebranding then they were simply sold as speculaas. According to that link, VRT (Belgian Flemish public broadcaster) and the Belgian government's Flemish language advisory board both consider speculoos a brand name. Obviously, they aren't the arbiters of language use, but their insistence confirms speculoos didn't arise organically.

tl;dr speculoos do have fewer spices, but the name is marketing and not related to whether Belgium had historical access to the spice market

I was a little excited to see something I'm familiar with mentioned in this chapter so I wanted to add in a little note, but since I didn't actually know Belgian speculaas was different I had to look up some stuff and ended up making some mistakes. Can we just stop and appreciate the elevator scene? One partner openly communicates her insecurity in regards to the others' new job, and the other immediately and effectively reassures her in the most unambiguous way possible. If all yuri series were like this, about 90% of them would end after chapter 3.
