Almost certainly that last bit was metaphorical, but yeah weird time to do such a thing when you have to wait until volume 2 for clarification.

Yeah, that was pretty out of nowhere, and that character's motivation seems pretty bizarre.

Smoking does a lot of bad shit to the body but this is ridiculous. My mom looked like she was 29 when she was 41, and she'd been smoking for like 15 years at that point. two packs a day average.
