wow their art is very similar to last story

Dont you think thats a given with any mangaka?

And on another note,

I'm not sure why ppl think she is autistic or are making the joke- arnt they just portraying her as a smart longer nerd type?

Because upon meeting someone for the first time she immediately infodumps about her special interest lol

...I can't help but feel that so far the characters are just "Minami but interested in astronomy", "Yuzu but fixated on sports", and now "Hinori but in a music club" :P

the childhood friend is cute. any chance there'll be an amazing side couple instead of a cliche love triangle here? (i doubt it)

Honestly, I think they're all pretty different... Ayumu is perhaps the most similar (to Yuzu though, not Minami), but even then she's a lot more proactive and self-assured than Yuzu.

In addition, I'm actually pretty impressed that this manga addressed so quickly how it's kind of shitty to constantly confess to someone who already turned you down. That sort of thing often annoys me with romances, so I'm curious to see where that subplot goes from here.

I really hope at some point Hina starts to catch feelings and just goes full "You can't catch me gay thoughts!" and tries to run all her feelings out lmao.
Honestly very here for this, I already think these mains are delightful. I think this would do well as a shorter premise, though, so I hope it doesn't try to go too long if the "getting together" is the intended ending.

How Do I Get Together With My Childhood Friend? definitely had an underwhelming ending, but there was also a lot to like about it. Gonna stay optimistic that Yasaka Shuu can learn and grow as an author, and so far this seems off to a good start.

Glad they acknowledged going relentlessly at someone is not a good thing.

And I guess maybe the childhood friend is secretly in love with Hayami? What a shocking development.

This is a classic Hina thing to do.

Well, they are not identical obviously. But personalities seem pretty spot on to me, Ayumu is almost exactly like Minami - a bit goofy, prone to overthinking, she discovers this "love" thing and it makes her go nuts. And, as you say, proactive in general. Hina behaves pretty much like Yuzu did, at least in the first half of the story (before they basically retconned her :P) - calm, oblivious and just focused on her thing. And even Asuka seems to me like Hinori, who was supposed to be this "reasonable third party" and a friend.

The premise is different enough that I thing this story can work, I like it so far, I just have an observation that the characters seem all to be cut basically from the same cloth as before.

Well, I compared Ayumu to Yuzu because they're both socially awkward and focused on their special interest (read: autism coded). Ayumu is a much more rational thinker than Minami and is also much more forward with her feelings. I also wouldn't call Hina oblivious, she obviously knows Ayumu likes her, she just doesn't understand love and wants a running buddy instead. She also isn't single minded about it though, Ayumu fell in love with her precisely because Hina enjoyed listening to her infodump and praised her afterwards. And Asuka is framed as an antagonist in this chapter, opposing Ayumu, which Hinori never did to Minami. I'm not denying you can find some similarities but I really don't see them as "basically the same."

I don't think the things she did so far were particularly rational, like assuming someone loves you after one compliment, or then insisting on repeating it every time you meet them afterwards :P This seems like Minami-style antics to me, even if Minami in the previous story wouldn't do exactly that because Yuzu was her childhood friend, not just some random senpai. So basically, circumstances are obviously different, but personalities seem similar, too similar not to discuss.

And Asuka is framed as an antagonist in this chapter, opposing Ayumu, which Hinori never did to Minami.

Again, I think it's the case of circumstances being different, Asuka seems to me like a concerned friend :P If someone introduced themselves like that to Yuzu/Minami, I think there would be a high chance Hinori would intervene like this too.

But otherwise, yeah, they are not "basically the same", I oversimplified this a bit in my first comment.

Okay, fair point lol, though I think it's partly just that they're both comedy protagonists :p "Rational" was the wrong word, maybe "introspective" or something was what I meant.

Yeah, but "concerned friend" is a pretty general description, right? Plenty of characters fit that mold.

Eh, I'd buy the "concerned friend" description if she did this out of actual concern for Hina instead of panicking when she sees Hina actually considering Ayumu's feelings and running to gaslight her rival into stopping before she loses her own chance.

Was the drake equation on this page present in the original manga as well?

Also: relevant.

The looks are almost mirrored, but the characters are very VERY different from the ones In Childhood Friend and I'm very happy about that

Truly shocking and unforeseen, I am aghast /j

She might have feelings for her childhood friend and that might explain why she then goes on to gaslight Ayumu. It's a trope I've seen a lot, but I'm curious to see how it's handled in this manga. :)

I will admit I didn't even consider the love rival angle, but it seems like half of this comment section pointed this out :P On the first read I interpreted that little surprise moment as just that - a surprise that Hina even entertained this idea, which if you know your friend for years and they never even display this level of introspection just makes sense to me to be surprised... but I dunno, I guess it is a romance manga so it's not particularly unlikely.

“Are you… interested in being my friend?!”

“N- wait, huh??”

“There’s no other logical explanation for why you’d give me such excellent advice unless you wanted to be my friend!”

Is prolly how it’s gonna go. But I’m open to being proven wrong
