All that to say— why is she referring to herself as a lolicon when she’s a pedophile?

Was lolicon the word used in the raws? Or has lolicon/pedo always been interchangeable in Japan?

You have been misinformed. Lolicon is the Japanese word for pedophile (at least, specifically, with respect to female victims). They dont use the word pedophile as that is an English word, not Japanese.

Well, sometimes they do actually use "pedophile" as an English loan word. There are also more clinical terms that mean the same thing, 幼児性愛者 and 小児性愛者. These terms along with "lolicon" and "shotacon" have somewhat different nuances but they do all fundamentally mean the same thing.

I read it avoiding all the tags... I should've read them. Lolicon is a no- go for me, 8 years too much if tthey're both so young...

It became a slang term for it
From what I've heard most JP Otaku don't really care about how the word is used outside of animanga spheres

Is there no distinction made between “real” and “fiction” in the meanings?

In animanga spheres is it used like pedophile?

Not really, no. When you are talking about young girls in anime and manga, "lolicon" (ロリコン) is perhaps more often used than the other terms, but a few quick searches on Google and Twitter showed me that it is also very frequently used to mean attraction to children IRL. Which is also obviously how the protagonist of this manga used the word. (I probably would've translated it as "pedophile" myself though that would lose the nuance she's attracted to prepubescent girls specifically.)

(I wish the people that dislike the lolicon genre regardless would just blacklist the tag already, instead of wasting time and forum space for pointless discussion on morals in a clearly tagged comedy series)

I specifically want to know why they're even here. If someone doesn't like a tag, why are they reading this or commenting on it? They need to leave people alone and take their moral grandstanding to the dead bird app. That applies to snarky little comments about the author too.

If you look, most of the annoyed comments are from fans of nmi, a known author with several very popular one-shots on this site, who decided to check to see if they like it because of the author even if it's a genre they don't like. Then they left comments that can be useful for other people doing the same thing. It's really like, the most reasonable use for a comment section.

And to do just that: The kid's funny, and I'm always a fan of a weird pathetic protagonist. Still feels kinda bad to read in an "actual POCD nightmare put to paper" way. Probably gonna give it a couple more chapters to let nmi cook. Could be like Happy Sugar Life in that it has enough interesting going on to surpass oneeloli being a fundamentally stupid premise.

Very nice, I just hope it isn’t another bait and switch or time skip/waiting ending. Those are always so boring comparatively.

Siscon vs Lolicon

A Battle for the ages

I was thinking the same thing haha :D
However, I do feel this will continue down the path of lolicon. There's already to much build up around the concept, But who knows.

I, too, started getting siscon vibes.

So will Yuuka be the innocent target of contention or have a surprise of her own...

We might have a True Love Triangle situation... but I don't know if Yuuka's affectionate behaviour is because there's love, or because she's just silly and friendly in that way.

The translation should replace "lolicon" with pedophile. That's what they mean and that's what she is. Just sayin

The best part of these manga is all the people who see the tags, decide "this is shit i'm not going to like but i'm going to read it anyways!" and decide their opinion needs to see the light of day in the manga's discussion thread

And of course the "why are these people here" discussion. I'm doing my part.

My wishes for this series are simple: Romance ending, no timeskip.

Interesting how prominent a role the friend/older sister is playing. While I still expect this to have the lolicon ending (and to be clear I'm not complaining, I do know what I get into with these tags lol), Yuuka getting so much time and attention devoted to her does make me wonder.

So far I'm not seeing any chemistry between Aika and Riko. Aika is probably more interested in her own sister, that's why she is rude to her girl pals. Not sure about Riko yet. She says she is interested in lolis so a timeskip wouldn't work anyway. Unless they go for the weird "I might like lolis but I will like you forever" bs.

Getting "My Friend's Abnormally Cute Sister" vibes but less fun and more creep. Girl bullies anyone her sister brings home and their parents stay out late? She's definitely going to be a siscon.

I really hope big sis is the end game and MC actually gets over her lolicon preferences. I'm really not vibing with that one.

What makes this series different from most other oneeloli manga I've read is the protagonist is explicitly and self-admittedly a pedophile, to the extent that she deliberately tries to avoid situations where she might meet a young girl. While I think it is more "honest" than most other such manga for that reason, it also gives the comedy quite a weird feeling lol.

I apologize if this comes across as offensive, and please feel free to correct me if I'm misunderstanding something. However, I find it strange how we often use the term lolicon instead of calling it what it really seems to be: pedophilia. When an older person is drawn to "cute" and clearly young-looking characters, we soften the language by calling it lolicon, but the underlying theme doesn’t really change.

Personally, I tend to avoid this genre, but this particular work seems relatively innocent & uniquely different, though I’m still struggling to find the right words to describe it. Aika, for instance, appears to have a distinct personality, rather than being portrayed as the typical submissive, naive child character often found in many lolicon-themed manga. However, since it's only the first chapter, it's too soon for me to judge the direction of the series.

We use Lolicon because its the term used within manga and anime for a character attracted to children - which is what she is. It is often used for someone who is only interested in anime and manga young characters- NOT real life ones. OR its a fictional character who is a lolicon. So the term helps us distinguish from real life people who are attracted to real life kids. Which is something to be taken a lot more seriously than a manga character- when it is often played for comedy or in a lighthearted way.

I dont really want to get too deep into it and what I said isnt always true but i'd say thats generally how many view it. That you shouldnt conflate some imaginary character or some line art with the real thing.

Anyways - on my own opinion of this- it seems fun enough and I will give it a shot- its like an angel flew down to me but with a girl who's a little devil instead of angel :) Im already wondering why- does she idolize her sister and not want anyone close to her?

Imaginary, exaggerated, but also heavily stylized. Anime characters don't look like real people in the slightest (they often don't even act like them). These aren't life-like recreations. These aren't portraits. Their faces are sometimes triangles. Their "age" is mostly a reflection of clothing and a change in hair. It's not at all realistic. Some people get that and some don't.

Close enough, welcome back Miya-nee~
Let's see if this MC can have her happy ending (somehow) with her loli for a change. Too many mangas with timeskip or ambigous ending. Only thing I hope is that Author don't play the best friend is also a love interest card-
