The mc feels like it's from a different manga to the other 3, stands out like a sore thumb and not in a good way. the resulting chemistry between the 4 is awful, and I don't really see this getting better any time soon

I am not sure yet why Ema sees Kirara as family (maybe I missed or forgot that part), but I am pretty sure that Aiko's intense averse reaction was because her own family was so bad (joining a cult and all) that she hates the very concept in principle.

Kirara was staying with Ema's family as they try to find a way to kill her. Ema probably grew up with Kirara around.

Kohaku is really growing on me. Just look at that face

I have a strong feeling that Akio and Kohaku will end up together, even though we've been seeing more of Kirara and Kohaku's dynamic. I think it’s because of their tsundere and social anxiety contrast. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
