Though human translation is 100 times better, I have so much respect for all the scan groups translating these works for free.

now that I have a job again, I would literally pay someone money to (suffer) read(ing) that manga.

(Someone recently put up a very rough translation of "Pick my Love too", without any of the SFX translated… so i used it as exercise to practise reading Korean (just the script… not the language))

Pick My Love too is great so far. I have a feeling I know which rough translation you're referring to because I read the same one. The SFX aren’t translated, so I’m not sure what they imply on screen. But hopefully another scan group would pick it up and properly translate it. :)

I do enjoy reading scanlation and the official translation side by side.

(i also always wonder if the official team gets the files with layers, or if they work off the same material)

Probably depends, with the layers being much more likely now than in the past. I've even seen one author (tmfly, the author of How Do We Relationship) talk about adjusting how she draws word bubbles because of localization feedback, making them less thin and vertical to make it easier to put horizontal text in them, which indicates probably a fairly close and technically involved localization relationship. In contrast, the original Dark Horse releases of Berserk didn't redraw the sound effects or even label them.

Edit: just remembered that the Dark Horse versions of Kurosawa Corpse Delivery Service labeled it's sound effects in a glossery at the back of each book, which is insane. Even worse, they let the editor put political screeds back there, frequently contradicting the author's own politics, like how there's an arc about Japanese war crimes during ww2 that's very critical of Japan and the American editor inserted a rant about how China is bad so the Rape of Nanking was fine actually.

I dunno how do you expect them to answer since I bet they don't check the comment sections anymore, except idiots like me I guess :P I gave up on reading this right before the prom, so not exactly halfway, but 4 pages at a time finally wore me down and I'm not resuming :P As they say, sometimes it's about the journey, not the destination, and the journey was nonsense for like the last 30 chapters or so

You make it a simpler matter than it actually is. I, as I'm sure many other people too, don't want to see SFX redrawn. They're part of the original art, not just something superimposed. It's over-localization and usually it also results in more of the page being covered up by necessity. Side text is the way to go.

I like the whole “here are the girls in a low-gravity environment” vibe—captures that “floating on clouds of hormones and new experiences” high-school affect.

i have never heard of "beabadoobee" before now. their cover of dont you forget about me is alright but it's hard to beat the original in my book
