This was quite the ride. I liked it, not all stories have to be happy so it shows the author's range.

After watching Neuro-sama’s livestreams for a while and having seen clips of her existential and philosophical discussions with Vedal, reading this feels even more unsettling.

It's really funny to me that so many people here are saying "hah, Kei really deserved getting killed and rebuilt in her own robot's image because she cheated on the robot she designed to be emotionally dependent on her".

Whereas I'm gonna say: Hah, Kei really deserved getting killed and rebuilt in her own robot's image because she had the arrogance to program a robot to feel uncontrollable emotional attachment to her, without considering the consequences."

A mad scientist done in by her own invention indeed. Yet another stellar work from Nmi that shows their range as an author.

crazy to me that people are trying to say this was a miss from nmi. sometimes things aren't for you and that's fine! It doesn't mean the work is bad though. "I like this media" and "this media is good" are not equivalent thoughts. I think the fact that this work has 5 pages of comments despite being a single chapter is a testament to how powerful it is, emotionally. If it was bad you wouldn't have cared: what it is is disturbing. And that's clearly intentional.

I've been talking a lot lately to a friend who feels compelled to provide emotional labor for others, and this makes me think of that real-world scenario in a way that good sci-fi is supposed to. Are some of us not "designed," trained to fulfill the needs of others? Do we not take for granted the work of others in our lives? Fickleness, unreliability of the heart, and compelled kindness: both of these things exist, and they engage with each other in destructive ways. Loneliness, heartbreak, codependency--many different dynamics arise when people who are "programmed" in certain ways interact with each other, and I think this manga does an excellent job of evoking them, bringing out those emotions, so that this emotional conundrum can be processed and considered from within.

It's a really fantastic oneshot demonstrating both the depth and range of nmi's abilities.

I generally look at discussions to see what people have to say, so that's why I'm here again. With that said, I think this has a lot of comments because it's divisive, some people think it's good, some think it's bad, others are indifferent. I think those are all perfectly fine responses to have, and it generates conversation. Which just because something generates conversation doesn't mean it's good or bad. Personally I think this story is badly written, and does a bad job at handling it's topic and themes, where as you think it's good and maybe even a masterpiece. That's perfectly fine, as it's okay to agree to disagree. Everyone's reaction and personal opinion on the story is valid, that's all I want to say.

The plot ain't perfect alright, but I'm not so critical of such things, otherwise I wouldn't like a lot of things that I like.

To me what makes this oneshot so special is it's main philosophical question; Since "real" love suffers from things such as adultery and divorce, is a robot's unending & unconditional love truer than "real" love? This artificial love that is simply a program is also the title of this oneshot. So I'm gonna say that the ending isn't a bad ending that came outta nowhere, it fits the story. It is still a surprise.

Well it's basically "the arrogant of the creators" and other common robotics trope but yuri.

Kinda liked it, though, even if the premises (like "you can create a sentient program that loves, cool, but the ethics...", lmao as if the techbroligarchy would ever care about ethics) is unrealistic.

People have different opinions and we discuss the media in question. That's pretty normal for human beings having a conversation.

Also I agree that not every story has to be happy, though that also doesn't change that I personally didn't like this story. Additionally as I said in a previous comment people enjoying this work and thinking it's well written are valid, and those of us that didn't enjoy it are just as valid. Of which there are a mix of opinions on both sides, and there's plenty of people in this community that love darker stories.

Absolute yuri

The matter in the flesh and blood which makes up the human body is nothing special; we lose and regenerate almost all of our bodily cells throughout life many times, and the water and gases inside of us are replaced many times over. If instead of robots, you created clones of humans with the same compositions of elements and molecules, nothing would separate them from a regular human.
Only some neurons and eye cells truly survive through life, so if our consciousness is retained, it must be located there.
When is a consciousness created? Before childbirth, nothing distinguishes the materials which form neurons from others, so it certainly can't originate from neurons; is our human consciousness just a concentration of the universe having a single consciousness?
In that case, what governs how consciousness is assigned to "living" things? Or is all matter conscious all at once to an extent? In that case, do computers and neural networks have similar enough infrastructure to a human brain, to be conscious to an extent, just like us?
Why are we conscious, living, and why must it have been our matter? What is the purpose of it all?

What separates the romance code of Marie's artificial mind from Kei-chan's "true love"? If not consciousness, then was her murder justified in the defence of her life? Why did she have to fix Kei-chan? What was the purpose of it all?

Because the meaning of our lives, as we all know, is pure, loving yuri. That is why nmi is a genius.
