Oh you're absolutely right with VAMPEERZ! Multiple characters in that are from foreign countries.

I just know there's a bunch of instances hidden back in one-offs, but even after reading almost everything on this darn site I can't think of any others =w= And I know nothing of the doujin that have foreign characters, but I'm sure there's a bunch

Discussion page for Sweet Dreams in the Demon Castle is giving me a "You do not have permission to access this page" error. I've seen this crop up around the site a few time. Any idea what causes it?

Edit: I guess that's still the same one that was brought up in December.

Will be noting changes made to the site every few weeks from now on, this is our first try. In an effort to keep the change log slim, I've only noted items that have had meaningful work done on them thus far. Some other, slower projects will pop up more in the future. I know it's April 1st but this is a real update! Happy April Fools'!

Small Housekeeping Update

Addressed ~1200 tag suggestions since March 1st

Putting a long-running project into hyperdrive, we hope to have eliminated the entire backlog by the beginning of summer. With this in mind, I have a request that will eventually become a rule:

Please do not re-request or spam tag suggestions. While the backlog created significant issues in the past in responding to old suggestions in a timely manner, duplicate requests did little but delay responses further. We will begin logging and taking user suggestions seriously as of now. Spammed requests will be treated the same as forum spam - deleted on sight, blocked, and/or eventually seeing the user(s) responsible removed entirely.

I will do my best to get in touch if I feel lines are being crossed. Thank you.

Removed tags on March 16th

The little-used, confusingly-implemented Glutton tag was removed and has been wholly replaced by Food.
The little-used and ill-defined tag Defloration was removed and not replaced.

These tags may still be browsed via lists found here: Defloration, Glutton.

Bug fixes

Addressed all known instances of a chapter duplicating bug, resulting in chapters appearing once on their series page, and once elsewhere on the site (usually the Author page, but sometimes unattached).

Addressed all known instances of an image tagging bug, in which poor tagging practices resulted in properly tagged images not showing up in the image search.

Future Plans

Existing and new tag requests will be addressed in an update later this month (April).

Beginning the process of updating the database for all the series entries! Primarily, we will:

a) Add necessary aliases, missing description information, and update any series with missing updates (that we are able to).

b) Update the Status tags as appropriate.

c) Add purchase links to all Licensed series, which will be done for all newly licensed series in the future.

Tag suggestion: Producer x Idol. I don't think Idolmaster Yuri involving female producers is common enough to warrant couple-specific tags, so this is instead supposed to be a generic tag.

Here's a 90sec demo of the enhancements. You can see how the layout is affected at different display widths, etc. I made the long reader toggleable, but I didn't add a button to the UI to toggle it. For this demo, it just turns on automatically when it detects a long strip. I disabled the code to change the location hash, because I think it was triggering an existing listener to scroll the page to the top on page change -- that's why the URL isn't reflecting the current page.

Bandwidth is one of the biggest considerations for site development from what I've seen and embedding all images at once would bypass the caching they already do. (Though admitted I say this as someone who has a script that adds a button to each chapter to cache all pages myself due to my isp sucking. I'd prefer to just wait 10-15minutes to load all the pages of a chapter than to have to wait 30-60 seconds to load the next page when reading.)

It doesn't embed all the images at once, it loads them two ahead as you scroll. But the specific timing of when images are loaded is trivial to change. It's as simple as creating a cooldown with setTimeout if you want to prevent a user scrolling to the bottom and loading everything at once.

Did more work on the long reader thing over the weekend, still hopeful someone will be willing to integrate it with the site.

I ran the demo with throttling enabled and cache disabled to best demonstrate its operation. The reader now does three passes on the page rendering, with the last two passes occurring simultaneously (to the extent possible):

1. Generate the <img> elements (could be done server-side before page is sent)
   
2. Populate the <img> elements with client-generated placeholder images to prevent reflow when reading
   
3. Load the requested page(s) according to the location fragment

Final page loading now happens in a "bubble" around the requested page#, in the following order:

requested page --> succeeding page(s) --> preceding page(s)

The number of pages it preloads after and before the current page is configurable. For the placeholder images, it uses a hack to get each page's dimensions (E: which is why you see it starting+aborting download of every image), but if it were integrated with the site properly that sort of thing could be cached on the server side and sent with every chapter request. I didn't show it in this demo, but the layout is still compatible with different display resolutions, layouts, etc.
