I just found this series and already it seems like both of them are going to die at the end... Or at least ones going to die and the other is going to go full catatonic for the rest of her life. Goddamit

Good story though. Totally relatable. I've also become super self-reflective over the years, coming to hate my old self and all the wrongs I did to others, intentionally or not, but I guess this manga has pretty good advice already. "Forgive your old-self".

Man this sucks. Part of me hopes that "first and last summer" thing from the start is just one big ruse and they're the opening lines from the final novel (definitely titled "The Summer You Were There"). It would be great if Kaori herself got the happy ending she deserves, since she's convinced she won't be around anymore within a year too. But I know the end is definitely set in stone, I can already see the "I want to eat your pancreas" ending coming. Ruri might never make an appearance besides being someone Shizuku can grow from, but if Kaori dies I can see an ending where she and Shizuku become friends. There has to be more to both of them being sick.

If it has to end in tragedy the one thing I want is Shizuku to write her heart out and let Kaori read their romance novel before she passes.

Thanks! I did not take notice of that. Now it makes sense that she wants just the summer...very specific. So right at the beginning in Chapter 1, is simply the MC described what has happened during that summer. After that it is no longer about "present" but rather "past". So since she is not going to live long, the question is will she let the MC knows about her illness. Also, it now makes complete sense that right at the beginning she barged into the MC and clearly she has a crush / in love towards the MC. Having a set amount of time left, I am sure anyone would do the same thing like she did. Your goal in life suddenly completely changed. Time is running out, so don't waste time on things that are not important, such as drama.
The story is interesting so far, but not interesting enough to cause me having an addiction.
So whatever happened to the idea of Yuri should never has a tragic ending if you have reach a certain amount of chapters and tankoubon???

That idea? Never existed.

Although there is always a tiny possibility that it goes for the also often seen ending with her returning from abroad after a time skip after leaving to have a small chance of a cure.
