I don’t know, I think that would be more likely if Tong Tong was still acting straight, but she's starting to get the gay panic, so I think she's just gonna get sad and jealous about it at this point, and maybe that will help her realize her feelings.

But it will still backfire in Liu's face because if Tong Tong realizes here feelings she won't want to confess because she'll think Liu is straight.

Tong Tong IS her actual given name (it's two separate characters), but the nickname version is a repetition of the first character instead. But yeah you're right, Lin is the family name, Luxi is the given, and calling her Xiao Lu would be like calling her lu-chan if this was a Japanese comic

I just learned that thanks to the translator's post. Interestingly, the character chosen for the nickname means 'child' (probably to denote her nature), while the other 'Tong' in her given name means something completely different.
