The DnD arcade and console games are a completely different thing than pen and paper board games and I don't think it's fair to compare the experience of those things.

The only games I know, off the top of my head, and are closer in experience, are more modern games like Shadowrun, Wasteland 2, Pillars of Eternity and Divinity.

Though I've never actually played any of the DnD games so what do I know.

Also I was wrong earlier about suggesting starting off on 4e. I got it mixed up with 3.5. I still ended up ditching it entirely after maybe 2 games but I was still fun learning.

Really? I was under the impression that Balderls Gate Planescape Torment were pretty similar to the official rules and they came out in '98 and '99 respectively.

Also, it's probably worth mentioning that Shadowrun is based of of, well, Shadowrun, not D&D. The two systems are fairly different.

Lucario can sense emotions up to a mile away apparently so that makes them the best wingpokemon ever.

I play dungeons and dragons, I have the beat-em-up game on steam and I play the table top role-playing-game also.

Hmm.

I was just referencing Table Top games and mechanics in general. If Baldurs Gate shares mechanics then probably, haven't actually played those either.

Just brought them up cuz they're better comparisons than arcade beat-em-up's and top down/isometric Gauntlet-likes.

^^^^While SR's whole rule design philosophy was wildly different from D&D's from the get go and has stayed that way throughout multiple editions (both systems are on their 5th now), it's probably worth pointing out that the vidya gaem adaptations work quite differently from the PnP mechanics...
