Hope that this starts updating again. I really want to see what happens after the anime.

The plot, it is moving.

Somewhat.

2nd time someone talks about Chiya's piercing eyes, the first time was the kitsune spirit. And also Tokie says they will lead the way like arrows, which makes sense because Chiya's name means thousand arrows: 千矢

And it's even more obvious Tokie was Kon's mom with the zoom-ins to her face in the panels, she has the same face as Kon from the side.

Makes me wonder, did she discern that the fox like one was her daughter?

Tokie has a point, that song deserves extra points, Kon being scared of tofu is adorable. As always Chiya is the coolest protagonist, and those Nono's faces are so much better than the anime ones.

Kon isn't scared of Tofu, she's scared of ghosts. The song is basically saying that neither bad "come ghosts" nor good "come tofu" will stand in her way.

Doesn't she dislike tofu? Inari tofu anyway.
Also, who is Omi? Does she appear after the anime's end and the scanlators spoil us by translating the volume extras and other chapters? Or is she Setsu and Omi is not a character name? (for the record, I looked it up and Setsu does not have buns in the anime, she has a braided ponytail)

Also, I watched the anime before reading the manga, but I totally forgot Tokie was Kon's mom by the time I read her debut chapter some days ago. lol

Also, will we ever find out who was the person who tried to divinate for Chiya?

Based Kon it was her turn to be there for her Chiya and bring her back to her senses. Nina saying the truth about Saku, some of them look better with the swapped clothes and I wish Chiya replied more often with "woof" to things. More chapters should focus on Chiya flipping skirts.

Tokie said something interesting about the 8th rank exams being individual tests, really intriguing.

Alright real talk... Can we all agree how stupid that exam is? A proper exam should have the possibility that all students can pass at the same time, as well as the possibility that they all fail. Imagine if regular schools did this? you had full marks on the exam, no mistakes at all, but because someone handed in their testsheet before you did, you fail.

It's more like a tryout for a sports team than a school exam. One might wonder why the whole hierarchy thing exists at all, like why does being a witch have to be a competition? Have shounen action tropes infected the entire manga multiverse?

I'm not sure if the author thought it through to this level, but Labyrinth Town needs to have a way to regulate the number of urara that ascend the ranks. Most of them spend their whole lives in the city. And it's not like you can't try again. Most examiners wouldn't put an endless maze full of deadly traps in front of 15-16 year olds anyway. The city is a place full of tradition and these exams test both their competence and weed out the girls who just aren't favored by the gods.

Omi first shows up in chapter 24. The anime ended on chapter 23. I guess we did spoil her existence by including that page, but we've always been including those extra pages in the first chapter of a volume. Look forward to her introduction though, because she's a real treat.

As I understand it, Japanese college degrees are similarly stupid in that they can only pass a certain number of students. So it doesn't matter how well you do, only how well you do compared to the rest of your intake.

This is a two step exam.
1. Find the key with your divination
2. Find the goal with your divination.
If you can't accomplish both steps before the time runs out, you fail.

If you can't do step one before, you don't get any points, because your ability wasn't good enough. Like using the wrong formula in math.
And becoming 9th rank is a big deal, which is why they can only let the best pass the exam.

It's not like a test at school, rather like a work trial period.

Nah, this kind of competitions are just shonen manga troupes, kind of like tournament arcs. It's a game that makes no sense for testing purposes, and only serves to get the kids reading it excited.
Even if you compare it to how some colleges or Japanese high schools set a bar entry for admission, that's with all people doing the same exam under same condition. In this case, someone superior to key holders B and C, might still be discarded because they got beaten to key A. and let's not forget that the cut set by college is mostly made up bullshit anyway which gets tweaked so the institution authorities get to admit or reject whoever they want to, like that Japanese college which manually lowered the score of female applicants in order to limit them to less than 30% of campus.

Alright who to ship?
Kon Chiya or Nono Chiya, because this chapter was great for both...

Also yeah the exam is stupid, but view it more as an attempt to bring in a little bit of suspense and excitement than an actual exam.
