Always was under the impression Japan's plethora of weird fetishes (as in above and beyond the usual) had more to do with the serious and constant social and cultural stresses they live under, and have for several hundred years. People tend to get a bit odd under such pressures.

The infamous hang-ups (and related hypocrisies) of Victorian bourgeoise would indeed be another case in point. IIRC the contemporaneous Prussian "officer caste", beholden to a pretty absurdly rigid code of conduct, also had something of a reputation for deviancy.

It's more or less accurate though. A major reason the middle-class interior decoration styles from that era (which survived startlingly long) are so overloaded with gratuitous detailing and accessorizing is the simple fact bored bourgeoise housewives were desperately short of socially acceptable ways to pass time... so they started going pretty OCD on the legitimate pasttimes they DID have available.

Rather less publicly acceptable but by no means uncommon attempts to inject some stimulation to the banal ennui of their daily lives then tended to involve having extramarital affairs... the French apparently dubbed that phenomenom "Madame Bovary syndrome" after Flaubert's famous novel exploring the topic.

Essentially the same issue as zoo animals that lack adequate stimulation and outlets for their instincts in their enclosures developing all manner of pathological behaviours. The more complex the creature the less tolerant it is of excessive artificial straitjacketing of its behaviour.

Well, I wasn't really expecting a continuation, but if I had been I wouldn't have expected it to still not really address the immortality problem. Considering how much some artists leave visible between the whiteouts, attempts at censorship, in some cases, seem more like making fun of the idea of censorship than actually following any prescribed guidelines.

This manga falls into that category, in my very uneducated opinion, since I am not familiar with censorship laws or guidelines.

It is actually more of a nipple effect. In anime, games and porn they usually censor the whole thing, but manga usually gets away with it as long as they do any attempt at censoring. That is why they just stick few bars on clitoris and vagina and that is supposedly good enough.
