Oops. My ass read the discussion before reaching that part and then forgot about it.

Regardless I am really liking it so far. The author seems very keen with symbolism, language use, and history so it’s such a treat to read!

Also I really love the teacher yuri, I had a feeling it was going to be the case but it’s so cute. The way it was framed as the teacher would be able to convince shihao out using her words but it seems like she was able to change her mood through other means ;)

This was so good i binge-watched the anime to be able to come back and understand truly what the hell was going on…And honestly, after doing that, not only do I not regret it but the doujin became even better. Top tier, thanks for the food.

Glad to see someone trying to make such a work, but the figures don't work well for me. Spit looking like paint, as someone said, and Lawine often looking like a blow-up doll. The contrast with the detail of the room is striking, though, especially the sensuality of https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/kawine#4 with the actual bodies nearly lost among all the curves of the ornamentation.

But I wonder if I should suspect cheating on all that detail work.

I'm not sure if it's considered cheating, but from what it looks it's probably 3D assets with a filter for the background. A lot of tools are available for mangakas and comic artists for easier backgrounds (such as sketchfab) and clip studio paint has this feature baked into the application. I do agree that it looks quite jarring. Usually people trace the 3D model to achieve a more natural look or edit the filtered image to suit their style.

As for your other comments... Same. It is quite jarring and the figures are quite odd. I did really like the beginning though with Kanne rizzing Lawine up.

edit: looked at the author's other work. I see now why I had a weird sense that the faces looked uncomfortably childlike for my tastes...

Like the cuddly toy with the scarf? It stands in stark contrast to the other animals at the "shelter", and it's re-appearance later made me think it's important... it's easy to miss, but in the BG of p. 30, you can see them winning it! And it even appears as early as p. 3!

I think it represents A'wu's role in her relationship with Qiangyi in the sense that she is Qiangyi's "broken pet." The plush is a bag that Qiangyi uses, quite literally an accessory. It sort of shows how warped their roles are, there's a human and a pet. Imo Qiangyi projected something on A'wu or put her on a pedestal and thus may have a flatter, sort of objectified way of viewing her as someone amazing, brave, beautiful, etc thats why she stayed with her for so long.

I don't think Qiangyi was crying tears of happiness, I think that she is definitely sad. However the fact that she just went to her girlfriend and went "let's fuck" I think also shows us her own issues as she was willing to bury her relationship with A'wu with her. A'wu and Qiangyi is definitely in a sort of codependent relationship where both are being manipulative to get a sense of control over the other. And I would argue that Qiangyi, while ALSO being a victim, also has her own issues that made the situation much worse for the both of them. A match made in hell really.

A'wu takes control by being helpless and needing to be taken care of (which is quite clear in the comic). Qiangyi puts herself firmly in a martyr and rescuer position, thus A'wu saying "that's not what I meant" a few times during the comic as Qiangyi focuses on placating A'wu, even if A'wu presents a bid for connection. She also doesn't seem to have that good of a self esteem based off of what she said in p 37 and is dependent on the attention she gets from A'wu to feel special.

Not saying Qiangyi isn't a victim, or that it is all her fault. I've been in situations where I had played a similar role and it's a whole mental dynamic that isn't good. Playing the role of a savior, being attracted to difficult people (without the boundaries and intent to help them in a meaningful way), and, to quote the mom, "mothering an adult" (not in a parent way) is an issue in and of itself.

I was confused as to why a “How to” book was on dynasty but then I saw the author. Given the high regard I put HDWR in I’m definitely going to give this a read.

Just read chapter 133. That bit with Tamaki makes me want to reread the Tamaki arc. It was a really rough arc though I haven’t analyzed Tamaki’s POV enough.

I feel Miwa so much, especially on the chapter where she got called “pure” despite her feelings. As a person with an innocent baby face that had been my experience in highschool as well
