To the people who are offended by males liking Yuri, I'm pretty sure most people aren't like this guy. I, personally, just like romance stories, and come to Yuri for that. I've also read Yaoi as well as het stories before. If guys were mostly like this one, then I could see your frustration. However, that's probably not the case, most of the time.

Well, the original comment that got this line of conversation rolling said "guys who like yuri that much". So they were pretty clearly not talking about folks like you, and I daresay most of the guys here. If I read it right, it's directed at those who go overboard with the yuri worship.

I relate to Yuri Lover-kun. I love yuri, but have no interest in dating in general. I just want all the girls to be together forever. T_T

As someone who was friends with a lot of male otakus in high school, I can tell you that there are definitely people who take it way too far. I mean, it's true that a percentage of any given fanbase will include creepy guys, but there have been many instances where someone crossed a line. (For instance, opening up to a guy about liking yuri leading to him hitting on me in a creepy and uncomfortable way.)

Regardless, this seems cute. I'm interested to see where it goes.

For me, a lot of it is that I like super fluffy romance like Kase-san, and you are more likely to get that in yuri than elsewhere in my experience.

Another thing is that with het romance, one of the principals is a dude. And I'm a dude. So that gives me a point of self-insertion, and changes the mental dynamic for me. It becomes less "I am watching two people have a romance" and more "This guy is a twit because he's not doing what I would do in the same situation." My enjoyment of yuri doesn't really depend on how much either of the main romantic leads are like me, but my enjoyment of het romance does to some degree. Probably why I like Yandere Kanojo so much, because Manabu Tanaka is like a younger Japanese version of me.

That kinda hurts to say it like that, to be honest :( . If a girl told me that she's a fujoshi I wouldn't mind at all.

I don't say around me that I love yuri because I know that they could think I'm strange but still.

Except that, like bisexuals "having twice as much fun", nobody does that kind of calculation in practice. A het guy is more likely going to look for a type of romance he's used to, the sort he can identify with and maybe has experienced. For porn, yes. A lot of guys go for that because of the two-girls thing, but that's not much at all like real lesbians or even fictional lesbian romance. And for a good chunk of them, there's a bit of discomfort (for whatever reason) in looking at dicks to start with.

One thing I like about yuri is that it can throw more twists into the basic rom-com narrative arc. (For whatever reasons, in recent years I’ve moved almost entirely away from stories, movies, TV, etc. in which people are killed, shot, tortured, or things blow up, especially ones where women are killed, etc.). Since, in a het-normative world, we (or the characters) don’t always start with the expectation of romantic involvement between the characters, there are a few more possible turns/paths before we get to plot resolution.

It’s similar to one reason I like Kdrama rom-coms—it’s not the het/non-het aspect, it’s that often the tsundere chaebol protagonists are so emotionally oblivious that they have no clue why they suddenly start going doki-doki in the presence of some obviously “unsuitable” partner.

In US stories, the initial presence of romantic attraction is often signaled by the principals playing tongue hockey and having sex up against a wall. So where do you go from there?
