Forum › Fanfictions
So over the last two weeks I read The Proposal and A Revived Love and found out that fanfictions are pretty cool. So I'd like to ask for some recommendations. Angsty or fluffy, I'll take everything.
Obviously yuri, preferably finished (and preferably with a happy end), don't really care what series they are from but I'd definitely like some ElsAnna if possible. I heard ElsAnna has tons of rape filled garbage though. I don't want rape filled garbage.
I guess they don't count as fanfiction but I'll gladly take original series too.
Thanks in advance.
Giving In is one of the best ShizNat pieces I've read, although pretty much anything by centauri2002 or Sombereyes is worth a look. It's NSFW, so be aware that smut lies waiting.
Oddly, there's a lot of AU stuff with that couple.
Oh, and if you're interested in a bit of original fiction, Basil Makes Everything Better is a great piece by angharad_crewe. I love lesbian elements in genre fiction like SF and fantasy.
Good fanfiction is hard to find but I recommend these two stories from the Proposal's author The present and Gifts both are Senran Kagura fanfictions and easily, one of the best out there for the series
Thanks! Saved all of those for later.
Actually had Basil Makes Everything Better in my bookmark list, apparently, but totally forgot about it.
First, a general note regarding these recommendations, specifically, the quality of language (grammar and spelling). Mainly, the majority of fics listed here are written in quality ranging from good, to very good, if slightly clumsy occasionally, to excellent. Also, these works are, obviously, my personal favourites, and your opinion on the entertainment-value of those may differ.
"Searching for a Perfect Day" by harukaze
A "Frozen" fic, elsanna, modern AU, incest, currently at 329 000 words. Granted, it is not finished yet, but it is rather well written, and certainly worth a go. Something of a slow-burn, romance-vise, and it tackles the stigma of an incest relationship, rather than bypassing it, so it has plenty of drama, too.
"Saved by the Bell" by Satashi
A MGLN fic, NanoFate, high school AU, 134 000 words, complete. It is mainly just Nanoha and Fate falling in love with each other, so, a slow-burn romance fluff, for the most part.
"AlternativeS" by Satashi
A MGLN fic, technically NanoFate, a cross between the main continuity and AU, 59 000 words, complete. Drama, angst, it has romance, but it feeds into the former two categories. I warmly recommend it.
"PS: Vivio" by Satashi
A MGLN fic, Vivio/Syn, main continuity, 63 000 words, complete. Romance/drama. Vivio is a young adult in this one. PS stands for porn-star. I know that it sounds ludicrous, but Satashi actually makes it believable, not only as to how Vivio could end up in that profession, but the profession itself is rather realistically portrayed (Satashi was famous on AnimeSuki Forum for always doing a thorough research for her fics). Syn is an original character, and a rather well fleshed out one. She really fits nicely in the "Nanoha" universe, to the point that even I like her (as a general rule, I am not a particular fan of original characters).
Also, various MGLN shorts by Satashi, most notable being "Picture Perfect", "Vegas Stakes", "Week", "Sapphire Birthday", "I don't know why", "Spinel Heart", "Need Someone to Love", "Emerald Dream", "Ruby Eyes". Some of them are really short, barely over a thousand words, while some are over 20 000 (which are not technically 'shorts', granted; they are all excellent, though; you will find romance and fluff, as well as drama and angst).
"Blood & Spirit" by DezoPenguin (of "Elementary, My Dear Natsuki" fame)
A MGLN fic, Arisa/Suzuka, a combination of the main continuity and an AU that draws on "Triangle Hearts", 42 000 words, complete. Romance/thriller/action. An all-around good read, with an added bonus of having one of those sorely unappreciated pairings.
"Midnight of the Heart" + "Divided Heart" + "Innocent Heart" by DezoPenguin
A MGLN three-shot, Nanoha/Fate/Yunno, main continuity, over 12 000 words, complete. Romance/angst. I know that the combination of characters may seem as troll-ish to some, but it really is not. It has quite an unusual way of resolving the triangle.
Now we come to the "Shadowverse" series. It is a collaborative work between four or five authors, but I only read works from two of them, RadiantBeam (the originator of the series) and DezoPenguin (who mostly did companion fics). A series of MGLN fics that explore a possible dark side of the TSAB. Basically, the Bureau has a branch, the NSIS (Naval Special Intelligence Service, whose operatives are colloquially called 'Shadows', as opposed to the more 'heroic' regular mages, colloquially Strikers and Aces), that does its dirty work (assassinations, covert, black operations, and such, and basically live by the code 'ends justifies the means', their 'ends' being the security of administrated worlds, and very few people in the general public know about them; think of them as a version of Section 31 of "Star Trek"). The regular mages, Nanoha in particular, frown at their very existence, mainly because of their willingness to sacrifice, even kill a few people, to save the lives of many in return. The main pairing is Vivio/Lutecia, the kicker being that Lutecia is a Shadow. RadiantBeam's stories in the series are, chronologically: "Learn the Hard Way", "Never Been Kissed", "Never Confessed", "Daddy's Little Girl", "I Spy", "The Christmas Locket", "Waiting Game", "Shadow", "Sunrise", "Long Distance Goodbye", "Growing Pains", "It Never Hurts With You", and "Borderline". This last one, though, is not a part of the main continuity.
DezoPenguin's stories are: "Mothers and Daughters", a side-story to "Daddy's Little Girl"; "Following Her Lead", a sequel to "Daddy's Little Girl"; "Shadows Fall", a spin-off from "Shadow"; "The Shadows We Cast", a side-story to "Sunrise"; "Caught Within Shadows", a side-story to "Sunrise"; "Border Crossing", follow-up to "Borderline"; "Within Our Own Shadow", independent story chronologically placed after "Daddy's Little Girl"; "Shadow in the Rain", independent story; "Throwing Light on a Shadow", a follow-up to "Long Distance Goodbye"; "Running Through Shadows", independent story chronologically placed before "Shadow"; "A Cure Worse than the Disease", independent story (if I recall correctly); "I Never Knew You Could Take it Literally", independent story; "Actually One of the Better Excuses", independent story (possibly even AU-ish, with regards to this series continuity, I do not remember fully); "Take Her Best Shot", again, an independent one (at least I think, it was some years ago); "Love Casts But Fleeting Shadows", independent story chronologically placed some years after the last RadiantBeam's story.
In total, some 119 000 words worth of fics, ranging from fluff (not too much, though), to serious romance, to drama, to angst, to thriller, to action. It has a rather dark overtone. Bear in mind that the "Shadowverse" series itself is larger than this, but, as I wrote, I did not read the works by other authors. It was not that I deliberately skipped them, I just never got around to reading their works.
After that, I would recommend "Hayate x Vivio Files", again, a collaborative work by several authors. It is main MGLN continuity. It started as a crack pairing, obviously, but it quickly got a serious overtone, and it succeed marvelously. The three stories you should start off with (that is, if you decide to read it) are written by deathcurse (the originator of the series), and are, in order how you should read them: firstly, "You Never Lose By Loving"; secondly, "Lose By Holding Back"; and thirdly, "Prerogative of the Brave". After that, you can read the remaining fics in pretty much any order you want. Those are, by deathcurse: "Gut Feeling", "Little Girl", "Ulterior Motives", "It Must Be Love", and "Judgment Day".
Also, part of the series: "To Let Nature Run its Course" by Extrinsical, "Grandmama Wolf" by RadiantBeam, "No Atheists in Foxholes" by DezoPenguin, "The Things We Tame" by Shigan (this last one is listed on deathcurse's profile as 'in progress', but it is actually completed).
In all, some 82 000 words worth of fics (42 000 of which are "Prerogative of the Brave"). And, in contrast to the above mentioned "Shadowverse" series, this one is more romance-oriented, as the main obstacle is Hayate's stubbornness regarding the age gap, rather than one of the lovers having a lot of blood on their hands.
It is possible that, in the meantime, some other authors have contributed as well, there have been some years since I read this particular, and quite adorable, series.
By the by, if some of these names seem to pop up more often, it is because some of them (Satashi, DezoPenguin, RadiantBeam, deathcurse) formed a group of very popular authors and posters in the "Nanoha" fanfiction thread on AnimeSuki Forum, which I visited regularly back in the day.
"A Heavy Burden" by confused-ish
A "Maria-sama ga Miteru" fic, Sachiko/Yumi, main continuity, 55 000 words, complete. Romance, but with a heavy accent on angst. Also, tragedy. But, if you can stomach that, it will be worth your time, I am positive of it.
"Not so different" by Amphy
A "Maria-sama ga Miteru" fic, Sachiko/Yumi, AU-ish, 51 000 words, complete. Romance, humour, happy end. The twist is that Yumi has been attending public schools, until being forced to attend Lillian. So she is much more down-to-earth, slightly sarcastic person, who finds the customs of Lillian to be ridiculous. At least in the beginning.
"The Wordsmith's Flower" by Buddhacide
A "Maria-sama ga Miteru" fic, Sei/Yumi, main-ish continuity, 22 000 words, complete. Romance, light on the drama, happy end. I mostly like it for the pairing itself.
Also, there are several shorter stories (over 10 000 words) with that pairing by The Denominator, here. Unfortunately, the only thing I found in my notes was a * sign, meaning that I liked it, but I do not recall the specifics.
"In Sunlight and In Oils" by CelticX
A "Maria-sama ga Miteru" fic, Sachiko/Yumi, AU, 21 000 words, complete. Romance, some drama. In this one, Yumi never attended Lillian, but she still dreamed of Sachiko, to the point that it drove her almost insane. Somewhat supernatural. Or perhaps spiritual would be a better fit. Has a sequel, "In Dreams and Visions", 22 000 words, complete.
"Kannazuki no Shimai" by DezoPenguin
A "Kannazuki no Miko" fic, Himeko/Chikane, sequel to the manga (not the anime), thus, incest, 85 000 words, complete. Romance, also, much the same trappings as the original series. Basically, a new cycle begins. Despite sounding cliche-ish, it is rather a good read.
"KnS: Sins in the Moonlight" by DezoPenguin
A "Kannazuki no Miko" fic, Himeko/Chikane, prequel to "Kannazuki no Shimai", 16 000 words, complete. Lemony goodness.
"Ame no Murakumo ga Miteru: Red String" by DezoPenguin
A "Kannazuki no Miko" fic, Himeko/Chikane, sequel to the above "Kannazuki no Shimai", 29 000 words, complete. Romance, drama, but without the deadly struggle part. Basically, a peaceful reincarnation, in which society and parents prove the biggest obstacles (no incest here). Can be read as a stand-alone.
"AmeMite II: The Seven Mysteries" by DezoPenguin
A "Kannazuki no Miko" fic, Himeko/Chikane, sequel to the above "Red String", 53 000 words, complete. Romance, everyday-life things, and there is not much drama, despite having the tag, because the biggest obstacles were dealt with in the previous work.
"Capturing a Heart" by Aloness
A "Kannazuki no Miko" fic, Himeko/Chikane, AU, 131 000 words, complete. Mostly just sweet, sweet romance. Chikane is a famous tennis player, Himeko is a freelance photographer.
"One Night" by Victoria G
A "Sailor Moon" fic, Rei/Minako, 67 000 words, complete. Again, just sweet, sweet romance. Nothing more to be said. Plenty to be read, though.
"Deconstruction" by Victoria G
A "Sailor Moon" fic, Rei/Minako, 29 000 words, complete. Romance, but with a considerable amount of angst this time. Happy end, though. Also, the two chapters actually cover the same time period, one is from Rei's perspective, while the other is from Minako's.
"Those Gilded Chains We Wear" by KuraiBites
A "Harry Potter" fic, Hermione/Bellatrix, main continuity, with a slight twist in the Battle of Hogwarts, 297 000 words, granted, it is not yet completed, but it is growing steadily, and is such an excellent read, that I earnestly recommend it. Romance, angst, drama (well, obviously, with such a pairing). But, the reason why this fic stands out from all other Bellamione fics is that it actually manages to keep the characters in-character. Bellatrix is clearly evil and insane, there are no attempts to write off her actions, or in some other way make her more 'acceptable' (like her being a spy for the Light side, or going back in time to a period when she was 'uncorrupted', or some such contraption). Hermione, for her part, does not become evil, or some such nonsense. And there are no soul-mates and similar tropes used to explain the feelings between the two. And that is why it is great. The two of them manage to fall in love, while in-character. And the romance is believable. If that is not good writing, I do not know what is. Because of that, though, the romance is rather slow-developing.
"Image Of You" by angelic1hp
A "Harry Potter" fic, Hermione/Ginny, main continuity, post-war, 78 000 words, completed. Romance, with accent on angst and drama. Mainly, Hermione is in denial, and most of the drama stems from that.
"Crazy Little Things" by dreiser
A "Harry Potter" fic, Hermione/Luna, main continuity, post-war, 98 000 words, complete. One more with just sweet romance.
Well, these are some of my favourites, I hope you will find something to your liking amongst them. I may add more, as I have yet to locate all of my notes (I have a habit of keeping lists of fanfics and such that I have read). For example, ShizNat has some rather good material, but those notes are nowhere to be found, and after 7-8 years of being away from the fandom, my memory is unreliable, thus...
On a side note, these hyperlinks look elegant and all, but when having them in such quantity, it is rather exhausting to deal with all those brackets.

^Awesome, thanks for the work! I'm really looking forward to the Harry Potter ones, Hermoine has always been my favorite of the 3 main characters and all the canon end pairings are shit anyways.
Especially curious about the Bellatrix one, I love slow romance and I love hero/villain pairings so that sounds like the best thing ever.
Also the Frozen one that actually deals with the incest.

RIGHT?

Seconding Satashi and DezoPenguin. Definitely two of the best fanfiction writers the Nanoha fanbase has.
My recommendations that are not yet here:
Just Like That: Can I Ask A Funny Question? by NightCracker Artie
Summary: What if they'd never met during childhood? How could they fall in love? Nanoha and Fate in their love story of a lifetime unfolded in a single night. From a bourbon landing on the countertop, to a magical encounter, to a festival of feelings.
Pairings: Nanoha/Fate
Notes: Rated M, AU
Comments: I really like Nanoha and Fate's dynamic here. Plus, I like that it's relatively angst free.
Oil Stains and Meetings by deathbybunny
Summary: Precia finds that her car is the bane of her existence almost as much as her meddling assistant is when it comes to a certain mechanic.
Pairings: Lindy/Precia
Notes: AU where Lindy is a mechanic
Comments: It's Lindy/Precia, 'nuff said.
And since I'm going through a Vocaloid phase now (I'm just gonna post my own comments from TvTropes):
On&on by y8ay8a.
Summary: It started with a ten foot billboard, it followed with Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka working together, and it became so much more than they ever had thought it could be.
Pairings: Miku/Luka, Meiko/Lily/Miki, Kaito/Meiko/Lily, one-sided Gakupo/Luka, Lily/Luka in backstory
Notes: Rated M
Comments: A really well-done drama that touches upon the good, the bad and the ugly about loving someone of the same gender. It's a dead fic at this point though but the last chapter ended on a good note so don't let it stop you from reading it.
Postage! by Gray Voice.
Summary: Every single day, at the same exact time, she walks into the campus mail room by herself, and every single day, she walks back out without a single letter in her hands. Luka wonders if maybe she can change that.
Pairings: Miku/Luka
Comments: Loads of description porn from the author but I find that this is what separates this fanfic from the rest, and gives the fanfic a rather phantasmagorical feel.
Figure Drawing by Oeuf Trick.
Summary: Luka, an aimless student, first saw Miku in a magazine. For most, that would have been the end. For Luka, it was merely the prologue.
Pairings: Miku/Luka
Notes: Rated M, Lemon, One-shot
Comments: Nice characterization for both Luka and Miku in spite of being a one-shot lemon.

My one and only recommend will be about a fic/author
This is in my opinion the best Elsanna fic. It is Frozen-verse post-movie. It is angsty for the first two-ish chapters, but the payout is biiiig. The way Elsa is written is just.. Gotta read it. There are also subtle hints as to Anna's feelings towards Elsa that could be interpreted that were there before the fic, despite what she does at the start. I have confirmed it with the author, because I re-read it 5+ times back-to-back after I finished it and had to write to her. There will also be a little one-shot sequel that shows their kids (conceived by magic most likely)
Thaw's End by her is another high recommend but it's not finished yet, there's no angst in that one. It was more of a test fic to get a feel for the characters.
She also has 2 Dragon Age fics with Josephine x Elf!Inquisitor, and quite a few ShizNat fics. I highly recommend her, as well the Crazy Little Things by dreiser from Uranus, the intimacy there from Luna just makes you melt.

Already read Image of You and am nearly done with Crazy Little Things, really enjoyed them both.
Image of You was really good even though it went with the "I'm gay, that's literally worst thing that could happen to me. Dumbledore dying has nothing on being gay and Voldemort is Being Gay's little bitch." trope. Loved how the ending was basically "Well, I realize that we just took our vows like 10 minutes ago buuut... you know, let's break up. I'm gonna have outdoor sex with your sister now."
I really love Luna in Crazy Little Things, so deadly flirtatious without ever being out of character. Awesome writing.
Found 2 slash 3 Chelldos fanfics that are pretty promising.
I'm reading Seven Devils right now and it's really enjoyable. Part of why I shied away from reading Chelldos for so long was that I didn't trust the writers to get Glados right, This fanfic kinda fixes that by using a lot of ingame dialogue.
Story starts with the Portal 2 plot but revives glados into an android instead of her actual body. Then after the end of the game plot, Chell decides to stay. Then romance.
I plan to read Strange Bedfellows and the sequel The Garter after that. Don't know anything about it yet but the reviews are glowing. Plot is Black Mesa breaking into Aperture Science and forcing Chell to work with Glados. Then romance.
I've been playing Fallout 4 and I was reminded of After the Vault by Nutzoide. I read it a few years ago, but I still remember that the worldbuilding part was handled really well. The author made up a Vault and the area the story is set in, and it takes place after the first game, so if you're not familiar with the Fallout series you can probably treat it as a generic post-apocalyptic story without feeling lost.
I also recommend the Sherlock Holmes ShizNat series by DezoPenguin. Compelling mystery stories with a slow burn romance. The author's GrimGrimoire stories are another great read (he's written a lot for this game), and his Nanoha stories have been recced above already.
Definitely intrigued by the Half-Life/Portal fics, I'll keep them in mind for when I finish Fallout.
Soooooooooooooo... Strange Bedfellows really isn't all that good. It's not bad (for a fan fic, I guess) but it's kinda uncomfortable to read, for the lack of a better word. Read some reviews for the second part to spoil myself a bit about what's gonna happen and read the last few paragraphs of the last chapter of The Garter and finishing it doesn't seem like it's worth it. Oh well.
Anyone else has some other, good recommendations? I really feel like reading some Portal or Borderlands fan fics right now. Anything is welcome though.

I haven't read many fanfictions but I really really really liked this one Princess Fresh Powder RWBY
I want to find more like this, i.e. with one tsundere character + sexy time
If you're into Elsanna, J. Peterson is a god. She also has some ShizNat up.
Some Elsanna favorites:
Argos
Anything by TheSyndra
Stolen Ice
Anna Summers, PA
I mostly know Shiznat fanfictions
-"Siren of the Sea" (ShayP) although it's unfinished and the author didn't update it since 2012
-People also like "Moster" by the same author, although this is focused on the plot and fights a little more than Shiznat.
-My personal favorite is "Three Wishes or You" it's truly great. (Natsuki is a genie and Shizuru finds her pot)
- The author "StarvingLunatic" also writes very good fanfiction (They are mainly on Mai Hime fandom and Kim Possible)
In Citrus fandom there is "Citrus Schuffs" (I think I mispelled the name a little)
Well if you're talking about ShizNat fanfic, which really do appeal to me for some reason, "Giving In" by centauri2002 is probably the best NSFW I've read for the pairing, and "Edge of Loneliness" by Sombereyes is a really good AU for them.
With Overwatch being a thing now, I thought I'd ask again if somebody has some good villain x hero type fanfictions they can recommend? There's gotta be some Tracer x Widowmaker out there.
What pairing is Overwatch about?
I might be tempted to write some myself, once I actually play the game, fufu... So many pretty characters~
What pairing is Overwatch about?
Lucio x Music.
What pairing is Overwatch about?
Lucio x Music.
^
That, and Reaper x Players named stuff like DétHkilläh. ;D
Seriously though. Any girl x girl pairing involving D.Va, Tracer, or Mercy... Godlike! ❤ω❤
What pairing is Overwatch about?

Reinhardt x Reinhardt OTP
