I expected Vena's betrayal since ch35 and that she'd use those magical girls against Baiser the second they appeared.
but what did Baiser mean when she said that she cant do "that"?

Maybe because Vena powered up Utena, if Utena takes out Vena then she loses her ability to become Baiser?

Go berserk again.

Could be foreshadowing of something we haven't seen yet, considering how much emphasis is put on "that."
If it was something we already know about then she would've probably just called it by name.

Slight confession: I had to take a stab as to who (Baiser or Vena) would be doing "that" as raws just say "それ"をしたら without a specific subject, so I'm a little unclear myself at to what "that" is myself. If a later update shows I messed up, I can get the TS to fix.

@BoobTwinkler, @Goggled Anon
the panel its said on depicts a magical girl's heart, thats used to transform. could it be a hint on Utena becoming a magical girl? though my perception is somewhat scewed, because Ive been playing with this thought for a while (to go along with the expected betrayal. like, Vena takes Utenas powers away and Utena becomes a magical girl to take her out)

Looks like everyone will now get to join forces against Vena. :D

At the same time, look at her eyes: she is incredibly sad, so much that it overpowered her anger.

Theeeeere we go. Actual big stakes now, so it's gonna be fun seeing the girls get serious.
Curious about what Vena's actual goal has been all this time, though. I hope we get some backstory on the magical critters by the end of the manga.

Ah, finally cashing in that narrative check written ages ago. I have to imagine this is gonna be the final arc and I'm very excited for Baiser to properly let loose and demolish the stuffed animal.

This is always the most wholesome series I'm reading, but this month was adorable even for mahoako standards.

What a sweet chapter. It always comes back to Kiwi being there for Utena when things get tough.

Just two leaders meeting with their yandere, lovely girlfriends. Of course Kiwi had to strip but that's the type of shit Baiser loves about her anyway and I'm sure that helped cheer her up even more.

I also think it's funny every time the author reminds the audience of Utena's rules: we do not date magical girls or have interest in them romantically; we do not like magical girls actually falling; we will not be teaming with magical girls in any real sense. Always little, almost fourth wall breaks added in the middle of the action.

Is it just me or does the new fallen magical girls seem to be themed around the seven deadly sins? For example, sister is sloth, magical cream is gluttony. The 6 girls plus Vena add up to 7 too.

That’s a good thought, plus a lot of JP media loves to pull on the 7 Deadly Sins so I could see it as a very real possibility.

Kiwi Houdini.

The G A Y is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural.

I wouldn't count out the idea just yet, but I can't really see what sins the other Rebellin members would represent.

  • Kasumi/Rouge is an addict deluxe
  • The twins Ao/Sapphire and Beni/Ruby have this codependency-esque, extremely touchy [skinship is fine and all, but I think they're stretching it a wee bit] relationship.
[They also have the 'red oni, blue oni'-trope going on. Though the colours seem to be inversed here, since Ruby is the timid and Sapphire the brash part of the duo. Then again, a ruby is just a red sapphire, which sorta ties into them being twins. I'm curious what they'll look like in colour.]
  • Otome/Rose ... uh, wants people to eat their veggies, likes roses and shades? [I have genuinely no clue what her vice might be. I initially assumed she would be haughty/superficial, based on the shades, the way she's posing and her "unnatural/artificial" hair-style, but her behaviour hasn't struck me as such.]

Regardless, I think it's a fun move to get around the issue of adding a bunch of one-note characters, by having these traits be what enabled their corruption [and said corruption potentially turning their vices into their primary character traits.]

Finally, I just wanted to point out, that Utena's 'Wow' isn't translated. She genuinely responds to Kiwi's Japanese in this Times New Roman font. I liked that gag, but it obviously would've been hard to substitue, so I can see why it was just left as is.

Yes, it's a well-known fact among the scientific community.

Remember how back in 2021, the author tried to trick us that Baiser x Azul was the endgame? Yeah, no, Kiwi x Utena is true justice.

Yup, it's time to get really worried. My guess is that Kiwi will somehow end up Rebellin's first victim now. :-(

I mean, in a mahou shoujo story, anything but powering up without having your team mate or someone defeated/endangered/whatever would be very, very strange. And I think we all expect some Baiser powerups for the boss fight.

Either way nice wholesome montage. I kinda wanted something kinky nonchalantly sneaked into it on the p.11 panels xD

While I do think Kiwi just raised a whole bunch of death flags this chapter, I like to think the author is definitely savvy enough to have done it on purpose considering the depth of the series' writing in general.

Combined with the soft-retcon that the Magical Girl hunts didn't actually kill anyone, I suspect and hope the series won't actually end up killing anyone for real. It would be in tune with the Magical Girl theme that everyone ultimately lives no matter how bad things seemingly get. Pulling through is what Magical Girls do.
