I didn't finish Kitanai. I didn't stop because of the content, I just fell off while it was being updated because I think I was busy with other distractions. The last thing I remember happening in the story was the friend group finding out about the bullying and ostracizing the sadist So, I don't have the clearest memory of what I read back then. But, the sadistic bullying here definitely reminded me of that series, without realizing it was the same author.

Although, I'm getting different vibes from the first chapter of this new series. I don't know if "light hearted" is the right term, but it feels like less of a psychological mind fuck to read than Kitanai. I remember the beginning of that series being very vague about the characters' motivations. This new story is very clear about how these two think: Bully-"My life sucks and I blow off steam by bullying the rich girl"; Bullied-"Hit me HARDER!"

Seems you didn't get to the part where the roles reversed

Yeah, pretty much. When I mentioned the vague character motivations, I was thinking about how the earlier Kitanai chapters would include fluffy school life scenarios with one group of characters along with a hardcore S&M session with one of them and a completely separate girl without much of an explanation. The main pair never really interacted outside of their "sessions" early on, so It was hard to tell if their relationship was based on love, lust, obsession, hatred, or some combination of each.

I felt like their relationship dynamic made more sense and their thoughts started becoming more transparent, in the last chapters I personally read (I assume?). But, something about the structure of those very early chapters felt really ominous and foreboding.

Compared to that, I think this new series' tone practically feels like a slapstick comedy. Which I don't think is bad. I'm just predicting this'll be different from Kitanai, despite the same author and similar relationship dynamic.
