The outrage on yuritwt was caused by Manga Mogure rage baiting with sneaking "yuri(?)" into their description of the series.

Pretty much, yeah; Manga Mogura's summary also implied Momiji was lying to Ao which is where the "rapey" complaints came from. Obviously this manga was always going to be "controversial," but Manga Mogura's misleading summary made the reaction on twitter a lot worse than it would otherwise be.

Anyway it seems that most of the people who hate the manga have moved on by now so I don't expect there to be many angry comments anymore. While so far this manga is less interesting than the other controversial one, I do have a certain curiosity to see where it's going and I don't mind it being posted here.

This manga, as expected, continues to be nothing special and anyone expecting genuine "identity" issues to come into play is delusional. This is a romcom about a girl who repeatedly turns down a boy, says she likes girls to get him off her back, and then accepts his advances so long as he's cross-dressing.

If you can't see where this is going, let me spell it out for you: Kouyou will continue cross-dressing while trying to make Ao fall for him, will eventually succeed and then Ao will admit she doesn't hate all men or like girls at all, was just coping and they'll get together.

It's very thinly veiled dykebreaking material where the end goal is the supposed "lesbian" (obviously, we already know she's not. But that's not the point.) succumbing to the inevitable heterosexuality because she just needed The Right Kind of Man™, in this case one who refuses to take no for an answer and will do anything to cross over and stomp on her boundaries.

This isn't to say that this manga is particularly egregious, or that it's "problematic" compared to the large swathes of misogynistic slop that gets pumped out in romcom manga in general, but it's so obviously nothing special either. I can't believe there are people who genuinely expect this to have some introspection on the identity aspect when it's just an excuse to begin with.

My favorite genre of yuri. Trans girl who's not really a trans girl and is just trying to sneak his way into some other girl's pants x lesbian who's not really a lesbian who just had a few bad experiences and needs the right guy to set her straight. Ground breaking stuff.

I’m definitely enjoying this as trash, I think it’s worth it to keep going here on Dynasty. It’s certainly not worse than a good few other series on here.

I can't believe "keikaku means plan" got me, I guess it's just the fact that it's played straight like that. well done.

personally im not expecting a revelation, but the series seems to be 100% serious about both ao liking girls (judging by her reactions specifically and only to the fem!koyou) and koyou presenting femme (although for self-interested reasons). i think it's just as likely to go "hey i kinda like this girl thing, skirty go spinny" as "you're such a patient wonderful man, lets be heterosexual together".

I wouldn't mind if this kept getting uploaded to Dynasty. It at least seems good at generating discussion (100 comments and counting for 2 chapters).

because i am a defective freak the way i'm hoping this will go is momiji becomes a girl forever, where ao's willpower overwhelms kouyou. disappear for us, kouyou. make way for momiji

(the pessimist in me is not so confident)

There's nothing weird about rooting for that outcome, against all odds. A story where a boy pretends to be a girl as a means to an end is begging for an ironic outcome, and what could be a more poetic irony than the fake girl becoming real? Mainstream media is full of those kind of plots, especially in romance. Fake dating inevitably becomes real, and people love that and view it as beautiful. But somehow a fake girl can't become real, in fact the very idea is too silly to consider? It makes perfect sense to call that bullshit.

This second chapter really cements to dynamic of "flirting with going somewhere really confrontational and gross, but not" and "flirting with something that actually is saying something Profound about constructed gender or something, but not" at the same time. I'm cool with it being here at this point, it seems averse to going SO far as to cross a clear line for this site, but i am also not optimistic for where its headed. I joked before about them both turning out trans but another 'fun option' would be if Ao realizes she definitely likes girls and definitely doesn't like boys alongside Momiji deciding she "can't" be a girl (ideally for reasons of genuine identity rather than biology) and they don't stay together at the end of the series. I'm rooting for the author to pull a 180 and make this genuine trans lesbian rep but considering the alternatives to that or "making it just regular straight" is somewhat reassuring.

(I do find it funny how we now have panels contrasting Ao's perception of boymode!momiji with momiji standard that could be construed as setup for Ao realizing shes a lesbian or bisexual. It is doing something interesting there maybe -and neither outcome is necessarily negative out of context.)

I think whether this manga deserves to be translated really depends on whether it stays the course of being a yuri manga where one half decided her crush was more important than her gender, or falls into some old nasty ideas about lesbianism. That's not really something we can know this early on, but I'm hopeful, so I'd like to see it translated. I don't think it should be removed from Dynasty unless it actually does something truly hurtful; I don't think of this site's repertoire so much as "manga with lesbians" as "manga lesbians enjoy", given the way it often includes non-yuri works that play with gender in interesting ways while mostly avoiding "yuri" made to appeal to men. Whatever you decide, I would recommend ignoring yuri xitter, because no good conversations happen on that site.

Also

TL Note: "Keikaku" means plan.

thank you for your kind words. the main fear here is from mainstream media perspective, sexuality and gender are just toys to be played with temporarily before being put back in the box forever... the author also seems to primarily write heterosexual romcoms, so there's some concern ao being into girls and momiji crossdressing will just be narrative tools as a means to a heterosexual end.

for us, dynasty's readership, we likely consist of a lot of sexual minorities and are statistical outliers compared to the rest of the manga's audience... for me personally the manga would be a disappointment if it went that way. some of the straight readers would probably be fine with it though.

but i like the way you put it about an ironic outcome, why should ao and momiji have to conform to het romcom genre? perhaps the manga must change its genre to suit a lesbian romantic ending.

Weird again to see people talking about "deserving to be translated..." yall know Mein Kampf is available in English right?

I know that's nowhere near the same level but point is: even the most heinous terrible awful shit should be made available to people just for the sake of knowledge. Let's not kid ourselves, reading this series on dynasty is not the same as actually supporting the author, and hosting it on dynasty is not the same as supporting any views expressed therein. We're getting this series via an unofficial translation for free. If it gets really bad, give it a "problematic" tag or something as a content warning, but I don't see any reason to stop translating it unless you just don't want to. At best, this series becomes something interesting down the line, and at worst it will be an educational example of "what not to do," and we can all point and laugh.

Everyone crying about dykebreaking, rape, etc is a transmisogynist. There are no real life examples of a cisman crossdressing to trick/coerce lesbians, this is only a transmisogynist dogwhistle.

The actual bigotry that has a chance of happening is that Momiji serves as manic pixie dream girl for Ao for the latter to figure out her gender/sexuality(seen in shoujo CD mangas). I don't expect Momiji to be explicitly canonically trans (99% of CD manga don't go that way), but I don't really care about that.

I'm enjoying this manga and would like to see it continued to be translated.

So I am trans fem and down to see more of this.

Will it drop the ball and be insensitive? Probably. I don't get my hopes up. But these are some cute antics, so good enough. I could turn elsewhere for more nuanced works.

This is like a more crass "Boy Who Cried Wolf Tells Another Lie Today", which is not a bad thing imo

One 32-chapter binge later, can confirm. Anyone who likes the premise of this but not necessarily the execution will most likely enjoy The Boy Who Cried Wolf Tells Another Lie Today. It absolutely appeals to me as a transbian, even if it's debatable whether it's technically yuri. The story ends while Kei is still figuring themself out, leaving it ambiguous whether they're drifting towards being a full-time trans woman like their sister, or if theirs is more of a nonbinary situation. To be clear, that degree of ambiguity is absolutely appropriate to the story being told, because it's a good freaking story you guys, oh my glob

After just reading and not engaging for years and years I guess I have to make an account in support of keeping this silly manga.

No fully cis guy would that easily dress like a girl and go outside, no matter how horny. And he wouldn't be that comfortable and cute in it. Momoji might not be trans, but she's definitely ~something~.

The main character on the other hand only has to question her sexuality for a second to be declared a lesbian who's being misled. Maybe she just likes people who present and/or act feminine in general? That's not strange, that's my sexuality. And it's a damn good one, so good for her.

I really doubt Momiji will end up full time boy by the end like someone suggested. Kouyou is pretty bland and annoying looking. I've read a lot of crossdressing manga, and I can't really think of one that ends with the character going back fully. Who would that be for? No one reading it wants that.
I guess if you only read yuri, you might see this manga through a weird lens. But this is probably just a typical crossdressing manga, where the point is simply "crossdressing boys are cute" and no other deep meaning. That's why Momiji is drawn and written so much cuter and better than Kouyou in every way.

This manga seems pretty wholesome so far actually, compared to some other stuff on here.

That might be true in real life but this is created by an author, who will have their own intentions for setting the story up this way. It's happened before. We'll have to see how things are handled but personally I'm not sure this wasn't done for other, less progressive, reasons. We have to separate the character from the authors intentions. They will create settings that make no sense if taken literally but they often aren't taking it literally. The logic doesn't have to make sense.

To be very uncharitable, I've seen ill meaning authors use this setup because it creates an excuse to draw more of the sexual characteristics they're interested in (more boobs, butts, etc) but without everything else that should come with it (like what you mentioned wanting). It's early but how things are being drawn and setup doesn't make me all that confident about the intent. Would be great if it did pull through though!

I like it!!! It's got gender energy, and the exploring of her sexuality from Ao is really interesting
