I'm a bit disappointed by the apparent direction. The initial setup of "I'm into little girls, that sucks and I'm trying to cope" was pretty interesting. Having an 8 year old 'fall' for her reduces the realism and undermines the premise.

I've also no idea where this manga ultimately will land on. like you said it's an interesting premise but even since the early chapters from the way Aika is drawn in specific focused panels (and including this very newest chapter) it seemed to go against that premise at least from the author's intent. though to be fair Riko has gotten some focused panels like this too, so.

If I'm being honest I don't think that was every the actual setup. This was always written as an age-gap romance story, and the whole stick with Riko framing her own attraction to minors as negative was just a tool to stretch the pacing out, while also painting her as less predatory.

At no point did the story actual revolve around Riko trying to overcome her complex or struggling with the consequences, and the growing relationship between her and Aika has always been depicted as a cute and wholesome thing even when this kind of inappropriate attraction comes into play.

RIP to Riko/MC's morals and self-control in the future...MC is going to die in the future from trying to control herself and relying solely on her morals/reasoning.

The only issue is MC's getting over her past crush and possibly learning to love only Aika.

(I am going to fking hate and despise Riko if she ever abandons Aika once she gets older/ like 14-18+ years in age...That is the real issue and question here and I absolutely hated and despise that Female MC teacher of another manga for her having truly P-Word behavior...Especially for throwing away her first flame [Legal loli] just cuz she was older. Yes I know that manga is not meant to be taken seriously (Comedy rom-com yuri) but it was messed up how the now legal loli was just casually thrown away after the MC teacher had even enjoyed kissing that former underage minor in the past... I stop reading at that point when it happen).

EDIT: I would preferred MC gets over her issue/problem soon/eventually but eh as long as she doesn't do anything horribly scummy then I have no complaints (Some people here though don't mind some intense hand-holding actions happening A.S.A.P though instead of Aika growing older and the 'action' happening then.)

People here are forgetting this is a story about a self-proclaimed lolicon being corrected by a loli developing an oneesan complex going after her.

The point of Riko's "thing for 3rd graders" having a justification (her crush from 8 years ago never being realized and becoming a lingering regret) means that she's projecting and that she will not, in fact, abandon Aika the moment she becomes a teenager when they get into a relationship.

Had Riko dated someone her age in the past and realized she was incapable of feeling attracted to age-appropriate people, then yeah she is a sick pdf. But that never happened. And never will. Aika will make her get over whatever trauma is getting her so fixated on young girls and when Aika is 16 and looks even prettier than Yuuka, Riko will still like her.

The wording for the premise is icky, and this is a comedy that will never get into the whole "girl hitting puberty becoming sure about her paraphilia", because since the start Riko never indulges into whatever this is. She never consumes wrong stuff. She never fantasizes about such things. And the ghost of her past is always there because in every 3rd grader she sees that girl from 8 years ago.

Is making a loli fall for her and make her pay attention to her as a person and not a stand-in for a failed crush the best lolicon correction method? No. Would love to actually never see them actually date before Aika turns 18. Give me a time skip. Give them time apart. Something.

But, like, from what I got from reading this story so far, Riko is not an actual PDF. It's a questionable age-gap romance, not a self-insert story for sickos.

That's the thing, when I said she self-proclaims and isn't a sick fuck that should be in jail and it isn't a girl in puberty consuming illegal stuff: nothing in the series, because of its tone, showed her turned on. At least in my opinion. Doki doki, blushing and stuff like that isn't equivalent to being extremely horny.

It just isn't that type of story imo.

I think for the purpose of age of consent IRL if you were to just apply commonly romantic gestures that does not involve sex such as kissing & snuggling with a super wide age gap such as the work depicted here it'd still be very problematic at best. of course in terms of feelings not acted upon anyone's free to think and feel literally anything, not just fictional characters but real people too. thoughtcrime is not a thing no matter how some people earnestly insist it is.

at the end of the day though this is just a piece of fiction. its tone by this point has made it very clear that it's painting this relationship in a cute and positive light despite Riko's supposed struggles. anyone has every right to not be okay with that, and I guess keep making their grievances known even though IMO the polite thing is to just see oneself out at this point.
