Hmm, interesting and amusing one-shot (Sci-fi tag added before I could suggest it).
Like other people said, could written the story pacing better or in another way perhaps? But eh it was still good enough for a one-shot. Yeah...The whole soul thing and cloning of yourself topic (Are you the same person if you have the same memories, DNA and etc.????
[In this case, they didn't update the Data 5 years ago- Technically it is the year 2059])
L.M.G. A. (Living memories governing agency)...You know if the owner/creator switched the M and G plus added an I after the L then their organization would be joke about a lot more and well known...Their ego and pride on the other hand would take a massive hit lol
What makes a person a person/themselves topic thing (Memories, personality, DNA????)...The soul and original consciousness??? What exactly is a soul or helps create a soul? I am curious on what people's life on this topic lol.
It is very easy to tell a clone from the original if they not have the same memories/Past life experience. Well...According to the author on the last few pages...She is going to get two wives in the after life lol...Mono relationship become somewhat poly (Even if they are technically kind of the same/very very similar person).
Also LMGA...They must be making a lot of money from the whole cloning thing business (Need to get permission first from family members/lover though or permission from original person before hand).
Basically a free Respawn Depending/according to some people's views on life (If they think it same person or different person[Clone with just same personality + Memories])...Probably pretty expensive to do perform and do though (At least 5000-15,000+ Dollars)...RIP to Mel's wallet unless Nia had already pre-paid just in case. I would be surprised if it was cheaper, don't know the total price for all resources/energy/paperwork needed to perform a single another clone respawn. The whole issue/problem with clones is that they don't live long/shorter lifespan but they probably fixed that issue since no one would take that option if that issue still exist (Clone sheep example/ half normal lifespan).
Employee #1 at the place: ....Ummm Sir...Don't you think we should have at least clean or wash former Nia's bag first before giving it to her.
Employee #2 at the place: Eh?!....What do mean it not wash? I am pretty sure I told Employee #3 to wash...Oh wait right...that day was Taco Tuesday and I forget...I just though I did and told employee #3...Eh, I am sure it's fine...besides save us a few days from laundry fees from cleaning the bag.
