I wouldn't be surprised if Shou meant for it to sound like that. If you take into account how she behaved when teased - firstly, it was calm and replied as such, in that it was due to something or other (I've forgotten), a little bit of time later (secondly) she doesn't really refute it with that much conviction, almost like she's thinking about it in her head "It does seem like that, and I don't mind it as much" or something along those lines, and lastly we have this chapter where she's in frustrated denial (aka a tsundere)

Then again, it's 4:30am here so don't read too much into what I'm writing xD

Yeah, Shou the writer really fell down on the job on that one. The last three chapters has major events happening off camera (the decision to move, the breakup, etc.) with little more than a mention at best, leaving the reader completely confused. It's not that there's mystery, it's that a bunch of this shit makes no sense and we have very little to go on.

I wonder if after 40 chapters he's finally satisfied all his yuri urges and just wants to get back to drawing loli porn.

The last pages made me fucking cry. I'm crying. It felt so genuine and it tore my heart apart. The relationship between Keiko and Ran has just been so well developed; it's fucking insane. A lot of yuri has this tendency of making relationships seem so shallow, but this one has just blown me apart and fuck. Higashiyama Shou you sly fucking ass, I love you.

Keiko having a boyfriend was a real shocker. It was never implied that she had one (or maybe I just didn't catch any implications that she had one), except for the ex-fiancé, unless they're talking about the same guy.

Really, Keiko?? Your roommate is lying on her bed all curled up and tells you she wishes she had had more time with you and you just say "Me too" and leave her there? How cold do you have to be for that? :(
I'm not saying she should have gone to her bed and kissed her (although I certainly would not have complained lol) but she could have at least gone to hug her or something! Just something to show that she has feelings about this too!

I feel your pain.......blaming the author...and no one else.....I so wish Shou was a lesbian for a day in Ran's place to see what he actually will do to change the path in which this is heading. I have a feeling Keiko will see her bf again sleep with him again...make up things, or truly break up...but with sex included cause Shou won't be happy if it isn't.

I keep seeing people assume that Keiko has a boyfriend but there's not really any indication that she does? The obvious explanation is that she's moving temporarily for work - previous chapters suggest this, and it's not a terribly unlikely thing. Keiko finally broke up with her ex-fiancé, in part because Ran was pushing her to do it. Ran is living on her own because she (presumably) can't move with Keiko. I can't imagine a med student being able to commute that distance every day and it seems like it would be hard for her to find a new school there, so it's not like it's easy for either of them to go 'hey, let's go together'.

EDIT: In a sense, it's kind of 'right' for a lot of this stuff to happen off-page. Things between Keiko and the ex aren't really Ran's business and she's been very circumspect about the subject, so it makes sense that she wouldn't find out directly how things went. Their discussion before was pretty abstract in this same 'we both know what i'm talking about, but it's not my business' fashion.

Keep in mind that one of the reasons kids living in the family home with absent parents is so common in anime/manga is that for a salaryman it's not unheard of for your company to have you move temporarily for work. If you're curious about that, http://www.kalzumeus.com/2014/11/07/doing-business-in-japan/ mentions that and some other aspects of full-time employment culture in Japan.

This is definitely heartcrushing, but therein lies the hope in the first place. The sheer fact Shou has been explicitly doping us up on angst only to poison us centered around the pain of broken romance means that he is not only making it clear that he is intentionally making the focal centerpoint of the story around the two in a ROMANTIC sense, it also means that most of the best storytelling techniques advancing from here involve something far more heartlifting and satisfying.

I don't think I need to explain the first part to clearly, I know most here can see and clearly understand that fact. The second is just iterating a commonly employed but superbly effective tactic to soak in the audience: wrench their hearts dry, soak 'em back up even better. The more effective and ingenious the storytelling, the better effect this has on audiences (usually accompanied by a deluge of tears).

...but I think it's worth pointing out that if I didn't walk away from my computer for a few hours, my comment would probably be spewing a litany of derogatives and curses and Shou since that would accurately reflect my mindset immediately after reading this >.<

It would be nice to see how this finishes. I reckon it'll end in a non committal way, like the two go through whatever backstory issues they have and then move back in together. But we won't be told if its as friends or as partners because lol this is Stretch
