I managed to avoid RAG like the plague for years now, but if it's Toxic Yuri, how could I resist?

While "better than Rent A Girlfriend" is one of the lowest bars in existence, it's still impressive just how much better this is than Rent A Girlfriend while keeping every character's personality essentially the same.

FINALLY! A GOOD MANGA!

Honestly for a while now I've found it kind of hilarious how Rent-a-Girlfriend is the most popular romcom manga that nobody seems to actually like. I think the closest yuri equivalent is, maybe Citrus?

While "better than Rent A Girlfriend" is one of the lowest bars in existence, it's still impressive just how much better this is than Rent A Girlfriend while keeping every character's personality essentially the same.

Well it helps that, one, Kazuya did what he should have done from the start and drop both of them, and two, nobody is simping over the other and instead throwing hands like they should be

Mami aside, who I recognize is a bad person though she is also by far the most (only) interesting character in the manga, Kazuya is a far worse person than Chizuru.

Rent-A-Girlfriend but lesbians is basically saying to me "that weird and terrible cuck series but lesbians", and while some would definitely enjoy that (more power to em) it still wouldn't be my thing no matter how that cake is sliced lol

To be fair, it seems like the cuck aspect also got dropped with the saphening, since she got dumped at the start, so chalk that up as another improvement.

Oh yeah sorry I was thinking about the original series and not this comic. When I saw the title of this comic it made think, "what if the original series but the characters were all girls instead", in that regard I don't think I could read/watch the original Rent A Girlfriend as a series one way or another. It would have to be written by a different author at the very least, since from what I've heard cuck stuff is an unavoidable fetish of the original manga creator.

Haha yeah My Girlfriend Is Not Here Today was coming to mind as well. Also yeah dropping Kazuya seems like the best route, since I think if it was just the same story as the original series but Kazuya is a girl instead it would still likely be pretty miserable.

I watched the first season, and one of many things that disappointed me was the part in the last episode in which Mami asked Chizuru if she got any female clients and Chizuru said no. It seemed as though the "rent-a-girlfriend" service would likely have at least a few closeted lesbians hiring a girlfriend if they wanted to experiment.

I made it to the final page before I realized the reading direction was actually L>R. Still somehow made sense until that part.

Anyway, I have no clue about the source material, but the setting alone is hilarious.

I think it’s cuz the mangaka uses Chizuru as a plot device (and not a character) to keep stringing Kazuya along (also, the mangaka apparently thinks Chizuru is his girlfriend?? There’s a chance he might be trolling tho) and they’re sick of Chizuru letting him down over and over?

I’m assuming Kazuya has some character development that actually sticks that adds to his appeal

Honestly, I think people focus way too much on the cucking/NTR thing. There's exactly one chapter where Kazuya fantasizes about getting cucked and, frankly, I think it's hilarious and one of the few good chapters in the manga. The real problems with Rent A Girlfriend are:
1. Kazuya is an incel piece of shit;
2. Every character except Mami is one-dimensional and boring;
3. It's 380 chapters and counting and essentially nothing happens in, like, 370 of those.

I'm sorry but comparing My Girlfriend's Not Here Today to Rent a Girlfriend is just offensive. Idc how trashy you think the story is, there's nothing in that manga that's even close to being as bad as Rent a Girlfriend.
