Silly girl. She TOTALLY forgot the "kiss her to allow her to breathe underwater" part. Ooopsie.

that is not bitter sweet at all! that is the most bitter bad ending you could get T^T she is dead, death by drowning hurts a lot how does that have any sweetness to it? 0.0

In the hidden mutual love that led to this tragedy in the first place.

They may have died, but things could've been worse (i.e. het).

Yes, unfortunately she did die :( I found the story's progression to be bittersweet. At first, the princess saw the mermaid as a profitable object, but over time, she developed a genuine connection with her. I also found the moment when the mermaid, blinded by love, finally confessed her feelings, only to realize the princess had already drowned. There was a gentle innocence to it, the mermaid was so overcome with emotion that she spoke without thinking of anything else, not even considering that the princess couldn’t breathe underwater. That, too, felt bittersweet, tender and tragic all at once.

I really really try not to start shit but it’s so crazy to me that people will read an obviously symbolic story that reflects on some of the bitter and complicated parts of the human condition, the things cruel and ironic that confuse us and stay with us and demand we resolve them, demand we understand them, understand why we hurt the way we do, why the world turns so frequently in such ways, and yet do not permit any such resolution, so that our only recourse is expression, is art—and then come to the comments to post the takeaway “sad = bad”

Blasts. the only way to find something positive in those two would be stapling a printed copy of R K Milholland 's works to their [CENSORED]
