Criminy! I'm pleasantly surprised by this wacky fun dropping on my lap.

Still on chapter 1 but I have to comment on the sheer whiplash and crazy casual delivery on "Your potions are famous in the entire country, here're all your thank you letters! Oh btw there's a witch hunt yo, half our friends have been burned alive."

...You didn't think to lead with the witch hunts!?

Edit: Finished up to the latest chapter, man that was a lot more mature subject matter than I expected with the juvenile humor and comedy tag.

The glimpse of Rea on https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/witches_and_cigarettes_ch11_2#4 along with her doll-like design and tendency to be represented by cog shapes make me suspicious her body might be artificial and that's what her head really looks like under a powerful glamour spell, hence her memory loss.

Judging by the other witches' backstories, I expect she got attacked by a mob that either thought they killed her or got uno-reversed by her powers and that's the trauma that gave her amnesia.

...Also Tama apparently used to be a shinobi!?

This... Is surprisingly good! It's funny, tragic and lightheaded at the same time ~

I bet Rea's is pretty bad, yeah. Not sure how it can top Mode's 'all my animal companions died literally throwing themselves on the fire that was meant to kill me, except the bear I was closest to, who the humans killed directly'

These witches got trauma.

I'm against smoking, but if hot gay witches were involved, I'd have to make an exception.

And hot damn, this mangaka is a freak. AWESOME!
I want this story to get at least 20 volumes and several adaptations.

Finally this fabulous witch Yuri made it to Dynasty Scans! This Mangaka’s works are just amazing, so stylish and so much personality.

And yes!!! This kind of storytelling needs so many volumes and several adaptations. The amount of details shown and the effort put into it all is just incredible.
(The girls here are really slender, too. Don’t see that often in the women of today’s anime/manga zone!)

This series = (90% stupid and goofy) + (10% romance, psychological trauma, and gut punch)

I’ve said it before. If done well, this can very well be the next “Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid” with double-downed dark and Yuri version. And both happens to be 90% comedy with individuals from a different space fitting in modern society, and 10% dark past and drama. And both featured flat-chested women, crazy-infatuated and capable helper girl who happens to be well-endowed, chill little loli, vast magical powers able to do just about anything, and a hell lot of “older than they look” for these newcomers.

Hope this manga gets more attention!

Rea seems a little batshit insane.

Just a little. ...

It's also interesting that the insanity seems to have been a thing before the witch hunts and not just a result of trauma and injury (at least not from the witch hunts). It also seems to be tied to her magic, which looks more instinctive and internal than what we've seen from the other witches.

This series is such a gem. Love how creative it gets, and how it just goes all in on fantasy and crazy spells, without trying to explain any of it. It's magic - just let it be incomprehensible and interesting. Most of all, INTERESTING.
And damn those witches go through some dark, dark backstory. Can't get enough of it. More flashbacks please! Dying to know what happened to each, after the witch hunts. What happened to them, what they lost.

Only caveat is wish they would just like, drop the Lake Erie quantities of spit and the apprentice's sudden bouts of insane horny. ^ ^;
I get that it's being played for comedy, and I have nothing against sexual content (viva la yuri sex), but feel like there's a real tonal clash here. It feeeeels really, tacked on? And that the series would be better without it: it already has real, (non-)human connections between its characters.

I’ve read a fair number of series that have sexual hijinks and comedy that’s of a similar tone, so at least to me it feels normal and not tacked on here. Also I think the saliva is mostly used for comedy, and I don’t really have any issue with it here. Fair though that you don’t like those factors, but I want the creator to keep making the series how they want to. Especially as I’m greatly enjoying this so far lol

I get that, but Shibata Kouhei really made his mark as a really creative Yuri artist with his strange sense of humor, and you can see that just from his previous works like Reki and Yomi, Yona Yona Yona, and a one-shot which unlike any others perviously - Watashi ga Sekai wo Sukuu Riyuu (The Reason I Saved the World) - because it's genuinely Yuri with love in it and not just "subtext" with an emphasis on the "s" and "ex".

Anywho, it's entirely possible to have funny comedy and serious/tragic backstories, as long as the author manages the tone. Which is to say that as long as the can be serious when they need to be and funny when they can be, there won't be any tonal clashes. After all, when you look inside the great comedies, there are tragedies to some degree at their core. Just like "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid", in a way.

Also, the artist's work is just ozzing with style, and they also have bonus pages entirely consisting of hand-written drafts, which just shows the dedication of traditional artists~

The fonts in this chapter is a bit chaotic, by the way, but no biggie, since the art's where its at and Rea's derailing journey has just begun!

I like this series! I think there's so many awesome things about it, and its originality is a high point.
Humor is relative, though, and for me, the sexual humor doesn't really hit. The poignant moments though, absolutely do.

Understandable, yeah as always with humor it will work for some but for others it won't lol
