This manga is SO fascinating and uncomfortable. I love how it captures how hard it is to step back and evaluate emotional situations when it all involves you and it’s happening right there. It’s really hard to bring out the whole “here’s how I think this situation should be healthily handled” as a frame of reference, which is exactly what it feels like when you’re in the mix.
It’s hard to tell what Mirei thinks about things—I don’t think she even knows herself. When Soprano is closing in on her there’s this complicated mix of what seems to be erotic fear and actual regular fear. I love how the mangaka doesn’t obviously hint one way or the other and leaves it troubled and ambiguous. And things are complicated enough that it doesn’t feel like melodrama either.
Super interesting story, there’s really nothing else like it.
