The author extra about thinking the world would be a better place now, but it's still the same, really stung. It reminds me of a page in an earlier volume of "She Loves To Cook, She Loves To Eat", where a character says the world is slowly getting better. It hurts to think about because I'd argue the world is worse than it was even a year ago, and it's continuing to get worse. I hope to still be alive during a time when things are better and improving.

They're literally on their honeymoon together and Rei is still worried Saya is straight, like girl. Bi and pan people exist you know, and you married one. And another one is commenting this.

I laughed when I got to that page, she really said damn I can't believe my wife is straight.

This extra made me very happy. Well done - a thoughtful and often fluffy author with a sinister rep makes good!!!

And agree on on the author note hitting a sad note :(

Just read it. I put it off because, well it's Naoko Kodama. Kodama has done wholesome before, but there's something about this one that is so deliberately anti her usual cynicism. This sort of meta status, almost poking fun at her own tropes. It's good stuff.

Yeah! I had to double check the author after reading it. Like, these are decent people, with a wholesome ending, is it really possible that Kodama Naoko wrote this?

That was a great epilogue. It made up for a kind of lackluster ending.

And comphet. It's not clear what would best describe Rei but it's definitely not "straight". Reminded me of the last chapter of Making Progress on Yuri Before the Deadline where the author character proclaims herself as straight while threatening to kill her girlfriend's parents.

Maybe I misremembered but that's not how I remember it. I remember said girlfriend threatening her own parents. but idk, as I was writing that I started doubting myself so what do I know. Can't even fucking check it on md anymore to confirm for myself

Well, I have a copy of I Married My Best Friend to Shut My Parents Up with me, and in the afterword of that one, she says something along the lines of "I spent three years in Dark Kodama mode writing Netsuzou Trap, so it's been a while since I did something as Light Kodama". She also said she plans to keep writing in both modes, but maybe she still hasn't changed back into Dark Kodama. Maybe because those lighter works have been shorter?

Yeah I'm not sure since the ending went off the rails and lost me. I only remember there being death threats and that hilarious statement by the author character. I've basically forgotten everything else about the end and have no desire to revisit it.

That explains a lot.

Though, I can't say that I'm still not torn between "I'm so happy that she did wholesome stuff this time too" and "Where did the messy drama that Kodama Naoko fed and thrived off of go!?!?!?"

And me fully expecting this one to go the messy drama route didn't help lol

Really liked this series overall! I actually thought the ending worked quite well, and I didn't get the sense that it was rushed; it covered everything that needed to be covered.

On one end it's so frustratingly common in manga to have character say stuff like that, but on the other it did get a laugh out of me. Got mixed feelings about it....
