I want that struggle to actually be a big component of the story! I tried "I Met My Sister on a Dating Site" and I liked it well enough but it only pays lipservice to that struggle it doesnt actually get into it. Any recommendations from you guys?

Now I'll have to ask you what you mean with power fantasy because that can mean at least four different things: competitive dominance (modern shounen-isekai, especially LitRPG cross-overs), ideological self-adulation (e.g. Popadantsy, Solarpunk, etc.), exploitation of and focus on social status (palace dramas and ... shoujou-isekai? Is that even a term?) and romantic-sexual wishfullfilment (harems to ecchi and hentai). Plot quality criteria differ strongly between each.

I think I Favor the Villainess covers at least the first three. The MC (acknowledged as a second-strongest mage in the story) breezes through all physical threats, there is plenty of Inori's trademark soapboxing (at least in the LN, YMMV on the Anime or Manga) and the baddies get their public comeuppance delivered to maximum effect, with the MC enjoying her social leverage to the fullest, rising in sttaus with no backtalk (except by her LI).

It's rather popular, yuri, adapted to Anime and has a couple of spin-offs.

Anna/Elsa fanfiction has exactly what you're looking for. A lot of them are set in the modern world and have no relation to Disney other than the characters' names.

I know I've read one or two of those fics that absolutely destroyed me emotionally.

But if you'd rather stick with manga, the only one I can recall that's even remotely what you want is Blueprints for a Girl

• "The Beast of Hadingley Hill," on Webtoon. Fantastic series. Exactly what you want to a T. Not known as GL enough. People should know this is a GL series! Just a slow burn considering the story's circumstances.

• For something more lighthearted: "Eldritch Darling,"also on Webtoon. Also, exactly what you want, although she shapeshifts.

• As an extra The Witch. You didn't ask for this but I always share "Hadingley" and "The.Witch" as a pair. Also GL, really really amazing. Not Eldritch though.

My experience is with those kind of specific or creative ideas, you're more likely to find a western series that has it on Webtoon, more than a traditional manga. If you're ok with them, there's a lot of great stuff. "Hadingley Hill" is some of the best stuff out there in general. I don't see it discussed enough.

Shuumatsu no Izetta

Isn't this one quite heavy on the fan service too? I remember dropping it on the first episode because of it, though I admit I have very little patience when it comes to this.
I do love the Witch of Mercury, though it's more action/mecha. If op you think your sister could expand on this genre, it's worth recommending it.

If she watches isekai at all, magirevo might be good. I didn't love the writing tbh, but the animation was —surprisingly— quite good and it's explicitly yuri.

Unfortunately I don't know much about sports anime, let alone yuri sports anime. It's already quite rare to find female-centric sports (or even action) anime that aren't fanservice-y, sadly. I've almost given up on yuri anime myself.

Edit: Wow, I wasn't all that helpful, was I? I was mostly sharing my disappointment with yuri in anime lol

How much war drama/political thriller is Witch from Mercury? I recall it had a rather large cast outside the showstealing couple, and I have a feeling she likes shows with many leading characters. Like Jujutsu Kaisen, BNHA, or for western series, ATLA and HTTYD. Or used to, everybody else has left the nest and my parents are bad sources of intel. She also played Genshin for the story iirc.

Just checked this and yikes. With 4 sisters, if I get one an 80€ blu-ray, the rest willl demand similar value in the future. But she loves, lo-lo-loves Haikyuu! (apparently she watched it like 5 or 6 times, judging by complaints about the family Netflix account). So if this is basically just girl Haikyuu, I might clench my teeth.

Semi-related, she has figurines of the most random stuff and spends way too much on Build a Minifigure, so ... shipping times aside, is Assault Lily, like ... a thing?

Harukana isn't really like Hakyuu IMO.
It's a correct sport Anime, with some Yuri vibes, but its secondary genre is more of a Moe Slice of Life show.
IMO the fanservice in it wasn't the most egregious I've seen (though it's definitely present). But maybe I was just in a good mood when I saw it, or I was more tolerant of it because seing bikini in an anime about Beach Volley felt much more justified than many cases.
