The theme is also hinted at by her disdain for being called “Auntie”, and why she is so disturbed by the age the woman the man is cheating with.

I thought what auntie did by preserving the flowers given by her niece is an act of kindness--meaning she appreciates her niece's gift and that she wanted to cherish it by pressing the flowers as an ornament to look at.

Though the niece said something like 'bad taste' is not something I could comprehend.. until someone commented about it.
However, I still consider what the aunt did to the flowers an act of cherish.

I think maybe it might be bruises but I couldn't say for sure. Maybe an earlier draft of the story featured a domestic abuse plot thread that was dropped in the final piece?
