You were. Your post implied you were doing the translating ("I tried translating..."), instead of stating something along the "here is an AI translation" line. On a scanlation page this seems to be a particularly obvious distinction to make, and I'll further say you are being disingenuous when you act is if it isn't.

If you can read the source, then what do you need the AI for at all? It seems like a needless extra step in the process then.

Because I'm not good at it (en and jp), and it takes time, a lot of time.

Certainly I can turn on google translate and get what is probably a very good representation of a news article, but news is generally written to meet a pretty basic standard of language, intentionally moving away from more ambiguous or poetic writing to something that is easily parsed and specific. I can't imagine doing that with a creative work such as this -- especially one that seems to have its fair share of unreliable narrators, based on the manga chapters provided so far -- and expecting the output to be reflective of any narrative nuance.

Look mate, all this pointless talk about how whether AI translation is "genuine" or not ain't going anywhere. If you don't want to read it, I'm not forcing you. I mentioned google translate because the other guy was saying that I was "disingenuous" (?) for using AI to translate stuff and call it a translation, whatever that means.

How do you know if it is or isn't accurate in the first place if you can't read the source text to begin with?

I'd say so, or at least adjacent. Since AI makes mistakes and I genuinely don't trust it in general. Plus there's nuances with language, understanding it, all of which need a human touch. I think human translation is far more respectful of the original work, and Dynasty Scans is a website with a library built on human works and human translations. I appreciate the passion and hard work that goes into both the original work and translations here, so I'd rather wait for a human translation of the webnovel if I were to read it.

I think human translation is even more prone to error and bias, like the translation of Watanare by Sevensea (it feels really weird). That's not to say AI is perfect but it's a solid choice if staying true to the original is the goal. Human can really elevate the work but it requires a really high talent.
