Well, her daughter WOULD have a better life with a second mom and another steady source of family income. Hard to say no to that.

Criminy! I hadn't noticed that Matsuda was pregnant at first! Or that her life was so rough! Poor lass...At least she's doing right by her daughter despite the lousy hand she was dealt.

Also, kudos on the subtle growth and development of her admirer, who's closer in each page. She's stunned and backing away at first, but in the next two, she's moving closer to Matsuda before grasping hands with her.

This deserves to be a full story, I don’t think I’ve seen an age gap single mom Yuri story?? I’d be down

Didn't this author literally do a series like that?

Yes, it is, I feel a bit of guilty to find some things funny in this manga /_ \
Glad this is fiction, if it was real life, I'd be desperate if a friend were in this situation.

So let's unpack that last page:

She makes ¥220,000 ($1543 which is a pretty good starting salary for her position) a month.
Has a good house (two bedroom apartment)
Works for a "reasonably white" company (a Japanese corporation that actually follows national labor laws, usually, and doesn't treat their employees like plantation slaves).
I also think that these two had an off-page relationship, at least casual friendship, and these theatrical moments were just the younger woman's attempts to announce her willingness to advance their friendship to something more intimate.

That's 2.64M yen or $18,500 USD a year

I hate that the first result on google for "japan livable wage" is a random number from a reddit post. I guess I'll trust that it's a good wage because in my American eyes that seems quite low to support a family.

You're using exchange rate; I was using an approximation of PPP, which is more relevant (rent doesn't become more expensive just because the yen falls against the dollar, ditto domestically provided services like childcare or healthcare); officially the PPP is 94 yen per dollar, I used 100 because I'm lazy and it's close enough.

(lazy indeed: Y220k / 100 -> $2000/month, *12 for 24,000/year. More accurately, it could be as high as $28,000/year in PPP. It helps that you can find cheaper rent in Japan than in similar-ish US cities today, while spending little on transportation or health care.)

Okay, that makes way more sense. I never knew about PPP
