Damn sad thing to hear. My Dear Lass is a beautiful manhua and I was hoping it'd keep going for many more chapters.

I just wanted to note that there's a rather big discrepancy between Tracy's original Chinese post on Weibo and her translated Instagram post in English. Her Chinese post clearly indicates two volumes (卷) remaining in the series for it to wrap up, not chapters (話).

Unless something changed in between the posting of her Chinese and English posts, I would assume it's two volumes left.

Hopefully it was just a mistake in her English post then. A call to support the last two volumes makes more sense than chapters too. Maybe she’ll correct that on IG once she sees the comments reacting to chapters.

Any idea one what the data part was about? I wonder if that will affect other series.

But two volumes was always what was left? That was said at the end of a previous volume. Would she need another post to say reiterate that? I guess maybe she was just clarifying and providing context to what was already known.

Wow this is an emotional roller coaster!

And now I've reposted this comment back to Reddit because /r/yuri_manga was freaking out. The cycle is now complete.

I was reading the latest chapter on bilibili and at the end Tracy announced that vol 9 will be the last and that the story is shifting to wrap up mode.

Quoting myself from back in Feb. Since we are just starting Vol 8 now that would mean 2 volumes remaining is simply it being exactly on track. So I’m not sure what she really meant with her announcement if it is indeed volumes. As that was the same info going back to her Feb announcement. Maybe even more was lost in translation.

That's what I'm saying. It ending in 2 volumes was known for a long while. Maybe she means she would have done more than 2 if it were more successful but other than that this doesn't seem like new info.

She did a follow up comment on IG correcting the chapters/volumes oops. Reading it all together it sounds more like she needs active support on the app to help make the last two volumes more of a sure thing. Her editor’s warning was enough to get her to ask for support so still probably a serious worry.

So she's just worried she won't even get her planned 2 last volumes? That makes more sense. With what's currently happening in the series, I think she'll get a spike? Hopefully. I still believe she could make a shorter ending work but I would much rather she get to the final 9th volume like she planned. That would be a few more chapters.

I am no longer ranked so high on the her “starlight” and fan list which hopefully means her domestic audience has woke up a bit.

For anyone wondering it’s not hard to set up an account or very expensive in USD to buy coins there. You can use coins to buy the raws. And if you buy the raws for a whole volume you get access to illustrations and the spicy extra scenes as well. You can also use coins to give tips/starlight that helps her in the rankings. And of course leave comments which she suggested would be helpful.

Oof, shits getting heated out here in Peachtown.

I miss my fluff.

I know there’s always been an undercurrent of tension in this series. But I miss the cool-tall-girl/feisty-short-girl fluff.

The author has kept this arc going for quite a while without the tension break of actually learning what the problem is that's causing this negative reaction/tantrum. I have my guesses, presumably something related to all the bother she made for her adoptive parents and feeling very guilty and not wanting them to go through that with another brat? But Xiaoyang really doesn't seem that bad, whatever trouble he causes can't be worse than what Xiaoen is doing with her tantrums and enbyphobia. It's obviously a very irrational position she's in. Definitely appreciate Xingyuan countering her trying to say some vile shit she probably doesn't mean just to hurt Xiaoyang and chase him away.

I think we do know. Xiaoen was the unwanted child, given up and forgotten/erased from her real parents. Xiaoyang was her replacement as the son, but Xiaoyang wasn't who the parents wanted them to be despite the expectations and possibly a façade. Xiaoyang then tries to be who they want to be outside the family, repeatedly going to Xiaoen who is basically traumatized (for lack of better words, even I think trauma is a bit too much). So whenever Xiaoyang is around, she's reminded every time how people outside Peachtown basically don't want her.

Xiaoxen really likes lecturing people younger than her on how to be an adult when she’s throwing the biggest tantrum I’ve seen in this story thus far

Damn it, why can't this just be them growing closer?! It's become like a kid that won't go to bed. Can't relate to that "Why do I have to be responsible" crap. I was a flippin' Staff Sergeant by the time I was her age.

Honestly, I am to the point where I think I'm done with this.

Like someone said earlier in the thread, there's been zero break in the tension/conflict, and it's brought me to genuinely hate Xiaoxen. She's edging closer knocking P (How to Draw an Ellipse) as my least favorite character.

I'll probably come back to finish it after it ends (whether on the author's terms or a cancellation), just to see where it ends.

Exactly, yeah. They've all got some issues they're working through and doing so realistically, no matter how uncomfortable. They're all good people at the core though. I like how the author maneuvers everyone's inner psychology and doesn't sugarcoat how one might lash out and struggle against their world and those in it. I'd say trauma is the perfect word. She's clearly not OK, and we don't want to rate trauma. Both siblings have suffered in different ways and handled or mishandled it in different ways.

This is also a specifically trying moment. She just received a phone call from the mom who threw her away and that's likely grudging up a lot of trauma. I don't think Xiaoen knows what to do with this responsibility being shoved on her again by the mother. She's retreating into herself. She cares for her sibling though. Xiaoyang is my favorite character in the series but Xiaoen is a clear second for me. She has a very unique position and watching her work through it, I can't help but empathize. She often feels like the personification of the walls constantly closing in on someone. I really like this series.

She got sent to the countryside for being unwanted (a girl), had a look at what she thought she was missing when she sneaked out as a teen and saw her bio mom reconfirm how much they don’t value daughters. Now years later her brother (who got the bioparents’ blessing) is, in her mind, throwing that away and choosing her life (both the girl part and showing up to where she was exiled to Peachtown) for reasons beyond her comprehension.

It’s interesting how she overly embraced her life in Peachtown. Always leaning into her spot in the hierarchy. Holding on to everything so tightly. Working to the top of the local industry. Heck, she’s even allergic to peaches off the tree, right? But she’s devoted to peaches. She knows she’s adopted in, but dug in as far as she could like that irregular tree from the early chapters she stubbornly keeps alive. She is so bent on thriving despite everything. She works on outreach to attract “weird” youth to Peachtown too. It’s her pet project and she seems to have two success cases.

She got one visitor to stay at least for now with her outsider GF who isn’t aware of her history like the rest of the town…and also attracted a sibling who is forcing her to think about her most insecure feelings where she thought she was safest.

When you go back and reread the beginning after knowing more about her childhood her current internal conflicts and childishness makes a lot more sense imo. A lot of the dialog in current context reads very different.

Tracy did a IG stream in English today. She starts off a little tired because she was doing signings, but gets more chatty about 4 minutes in. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DC3kWF4xP-J/

Some things of note:

  • She's working on the vol 1 physical release and doing like 1k signed and doodled pages. A few drawn live on stream. She says her hand can do the doodles without her brain at this point.
  • Her next work will be with a Japanese editor it sounds like. She was really pleased to have Japanese readers on the stream.
  • She was really thankful for international readers because she was writing a very specific Chinese lesbian story so it having a larger appeal was a happy surprise to her.
  • She was a little down on herself because of the bad "data" and attributes it to her inexperience at storytelling, but this is her first long story it sounds like and while she's been giving it her all she wants to improve with her next one.
  • Her English is really good even though she apologizes a lot.
  • She explains the names of the MC's are meant to sound like Moon (the English sound of it) and read as Stars (the characters). So that's their couple name together and she wanted to make sure international fans knew.
  • She'd love it if My Dear Lass got picked up in other countries.

Hmm this developed in a more quiet and less dramatic way than expected from last chapter, much to Xiaoyang's chagrin. Yundao's been a bit of a mixed bag when it comes to her advice and intentions, hopefully the next chapter goes well?

Honestly, good :P I will admit that this sick mother thing felt like a bit of cheap drama thrown in to the conflict, but by this point I should have more trust in the author, it all feels really well done.
