I enjoyed this manga overall; though I imagine it would be a lot more fun to see the different dialects in the original. However, I'm still not sold on the main pair. I appreciate that Kaede was shown to make an effort in the end, but it's not enough for me.
Why would Nanami fall for this woman? She's lazy, useless and a dead weight. She has Nanami covering practically all of their living expenses, while she squanders what little income she has on snacks and figurines and stupid stuff for herself. And I could excuse not contributing much financially when she's more or less unemployed, but she's not even doing anything to help around the house! In fact, she actively avoids it, with the excuse that "she's working" or that she's just so bad at housework and Nanami is so awesome she can do it for both of them. And we're supposed to see her doing the bare minimum—such as bringing in the laundry when it's raining or cooking for herself— as some incredible achievement. The fact that Nanami has to come back from work (I imagine quite late, considering that she works for a Japanese company that occasionally has their employees work overnight) every day to prepare the food and bath, while Kaede has been home the whole day makes my blood boil. And of course she also handles all the cleaning, laundry and shopping on her days off, because why wouldn't she.
The only good quality Kaede seems to have is her positivity and determination to achieve her dreams. But how in the world is that supposed to be enough? The only thing she actually does for Nanami is listen to her rant about work.
I'm not saying Kaede is a bad person; but she's not really even a good roommate, let alone partner. And we're supposed to believe that two other people also fell for her? While she's not even in-universe pretty, which I could at least see as a reason why she is apparently so popular. (Funnily enough, the other two pairs make a lot more sense to me, because I can see how she inspired them to pursue their passions. In contrast, they really do seem to have very little in common with Nanami). This just reinforces my impression that Kaede is the author's self-insert and this whole thing is their fantasy of having a gorgeous, capable girlfriend taking care of them.
TL;DR: Nanami deserves a lot better and Kaede reads as a self-insert fantasy.
Sidenote: I liked chubby Koyuki the best.
