I hope Tanya makes sure she doesn't try to use a back scabbard, too. :V

Eh, back scabbards would make sense for her imo. The sword wouldn't swing around so much when running and wouldn't hit the ground when trying to crawl around etc. Scaling cliffs, climbing ladders, the like would also be easier.
And considering how ridiculously big her sword is it'd also distribute the weight better

So long as they don’t show her drawing the sword from the scabbard while it is on her back I’d be fine with it.

It can be done. Most people "showing" that it's impossible try to draw using the hand on the same side the hilt is. It works fine if you do a cross-draw . . .

Technically it's sorta possible, sure. But it's kinematically garbage, runs you the risk of cutting your neck open, AND (crucially for manga) looks doofy as hell. Just because you "can" doesn't mean you should: Friends don't let friends use back scabbards.

The alternative is carrying the whole big thing in your hand, typically balanced over the shoulder as long things now are convenient to carry - which is how the very large end of two-handers was hauled around IRL - but that costs you one of swords' major selling points over eg. polearms, namely convenience of hands-free transport, and leaves you with an empty scabbard in hand when you take the weapon out that then has to be no less visually awkwardly tossed aside.

...which sort of thing is partly why the overwhelming majority of two-handed swords used IRL were of rather smaller size, in the meter-or-less class (eg. the katana and various Euro longsword patterns), that could be conveniently worn at the hip or waist as easily as smaller blades.

Social commentary on the shitty treatment women get at the hands of men in Japan (and globally) is arguably not common enough. People who are complaining about the men being "cartoonishly evil" should really take a step back and realize what sort of absurd shit is normally just accepted in anime/manga. Something to counter the typical sexism should be welcomed rather than dismissed.

THIS!

The single breastplate is fine as a concept, but I wish it went higher up to her collar instead of ending over her sternum. The skirt is fine as well as skirted armor is historically accurate for its increase in mobility. The best would be if she was wearing light chainmail underneath it; those tights don't leave enough room to think she is. But the amount of cloth and seemingly-leather boots leads me to think this is more like video game light armor than something intended to be historically accurate.

This comment section really highlights the kind of community Dynasty has. And I used to think it was a website for gay women. Lol.

Ikr. I came to re-read and look at the comment section if anyone has a link where I can find the light novel but all I see is pointless arguments.

I saw a person who supposedly posted the caps from the light novel, I don't remember which page it was though

honestly reading some of these comments, yall need to chill if you feel the need to "defend the male gender"
1: don't.
2: seriously thats stupid, don't do that.
I don't comment like ever but honestly this is silly and fun, let it be that.

"Single minor character"? I don't know if you can read or maybe you're blind but I mentioned some other characters before Mineta.

And also, people who can't accept that kinda protest is just people who feels insulted by it. I don't care about what they think, I don't care about how the manga represents males, even though I'm a male and you know what? Cause I don't have that kinda reasoning, and I too complain when I see Bakugo and Todoroki badass pose and suit and 1 second later Ashido's tits.

Single minor character? I would rather call it revolting subtext

Only Mineta is actually a sexual caricature you tit.
The female characters are no more sexualized than the males, you just don't notice it because you're not the audience.

How many shirtless scenes have the ripped, peak-human male characters had by now?
How often have male characters suffered clothing damage that exposes them in attractive ways?
How many male characters have started out weird-looking just to transform into bishounen-gorgeous pretty-boys?

I suppose you're not gonna complain about how Lemillion has had to fight butt-naked multiple times because "oh that's just because his quirk works like that" but of course Yaoyorozu having to wear a skimpy outfit because it helps her quirk is "disgustingly sexist and exploitative" or something along those lines.

MHA has plenty of non-sexualized female characters, as well as sexualized male characters and vice versa.
Get your head out of your ass. Comparing this manga's "Literally all male characters are horrible sexual caricatures while the women are sensible but victims controlled by the patriarchy(tm)" to MHA's well balanced and infinitely much more realistic fanservice moments is utterly laughable, and only serves to show off the feminism goggles you're wearing.

...
thank god you're fighting this misandry...

Wow this comment section is.......sad to say the least. At least I'm glad that this manga does what it does.

"Adventurer" in and of itself implies RPG context... and basically no one in RPGs is fully armored unless they're a knight that decides to tag along. Her outfit is definitely reminiscent of Saber from Fate, Alis Landale from Phantasy Star, and similar.

i was hoping that the silly fights would have been burned out by the hiatus, a gag manga surely isnt the best place to throw overreactions in either direction

Oh boy its finally back again for however long that lasts. I love how even the shopkeeper was kneeling down as well. Also, I do find it funny how they pointed out the skimpy armour is stupid but then gave a forntline battle class a skirt. Like that should fall under the no capes roll since an ememy could probably grab it and pull you if its as big as hers and might make it awkward to run around but hey she is also magical so we can say it works because magic.

if its at all close to as thick as a coat then trying to grab that skirt in combat is a death trap for whoever attempts it

Again, like it's been pointed out, the "caricature" of the sexist man isn't even that unrealistic like the "but women wouldn't wear bikini armour even in that situation" complain, when again, it's been pointed out that women can be forced to wear high heels even when it's dangerous. There nothing quite as hilarious and infuriating (not to mention speak volumes about how that shit is deeply normalised) than seeing a barely exaggerated depiction of sexism decried by people as "unrealistic", even more when the most "absurd" elements, like the bikini armour, still has real life parallel.

It's not unrealistic full stop, and if there's exaggeration it's only in the framing. The society depicted here is actually significantly more egalitarian than a lot of real life societies where women are/were not allowed to be educated or touch weapons. I swear people who grew up in societies where successful feminist movements shifted the culture have no sense of scale about how patriarchal their own societies used to be or how patriarchal other existing societies are.

Yes I'm gonna die mad about it

... so if anyone cares, this seems to be scanlated again on Mangadex, but the quality of said scanlation is really bad. For a part of the chapter it even turned the great witch into this fellow:

Someone pick it up in MD, now I won't spoil anything but here's a piece of advice, skip everything the males say, like ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING pretend they're saying "bla bla bla" and this become 1000% better and more enjoyable.

The things they say are so lame, predictable, superficial and pathetic that you don't need that in your memory and just by their face you can tell they're saying something stupid, so by extrapolating their faces with the protagonist's reactions you can deduct what's happening without problem, trust me this is the way.

The comments section on MD for this series just reinforces a lot of the themes of this series for me. To the point I’m just avoiding them now.

Yeah, they’ve now resorted to changing the events of the story to victim blame girls that got drugged. Just batshit crazy. And you can’t actually argue with them since they have no intention of doing so in good faith. Doesn’t matter how many times you tell them that every plot point is based on real life headlines, they’ll just call it a feminist agenda

Judging from their username (ForTheJerusalem) I'm gonna guess that if they watched the same First Crusade series by K&G I recently re-watched, they'll probably call any event mentioned that casts a negative light on the Crusaders as revisionist lies.

Also, I'm almost tempted to half-jokingly comment to them ">implies the feminist agenda is bad"

Chapter 23.3
Maxwell is Laplace's dad? What?
Also the artist and author really got a way of expressing the characters' emotions. I could almost feel Tanya's emotions there on the last several pages

Yup! If it stays true to the LN, get ready for even more incel hate coming to the comments. While volume 2 wasn’t as fun, it certainly had its moments.

So. I've seen folks on MD arguing over what kind of punishment Maxwell deserves.
Any ideas?
I say put him in a volcano. Not deep enough that he'd fall into magma and die, but deep enough for the conditions would be unbearable. And then just leave him literally hanging there. Forever.
