Even though it's a comedy, this can be a serious issue. Imagine, being the top of your class and everyone looks up to you. When you do well and even excel, everyone just assumes "as expected of her." They think everything you do is perfect, so you don't need praise for your efforts.

Getting to the top requires a lot of work and sleepless nights. So, I can see why Senpai might crave that kind of attention. Plus, I like girls, who seem to have it together, but are secretly needy.

MC's personality is pretty rough around the edges, though. You were crushing on her, now she's hurting and wants you to comfort her? Just saying, there's a lack of character here. At worst, sempai may become a little clingy and dependent, but even there, she has her image to maintain, so she probably won't, at least publicly at school. I have literally had a girlfriend or two say "praise me!" and I did. Plus, it's Japan, where praise is not exactly thick on the ground.

The only blackmailing I ever enjoyed in a manga was Scummy-chan's attempt to blackmail Satou-san with the knowledge that Satou, who is a respected teacher, is secretly also a prostitute.

And the reason I enjoyed it was this: one look into Satou's sweet loving eyes was all it took to make Scummy abort her attempt and forever discard all plans to do it in the future, rotflmao. Yeah, she may be scummy, but she's also way too pure at heart to actually use shady tricks against the one she loves!
