It's nice to see some male friends in yuri mangas in a while, but.. it's only nice when it's an actual friend like the one from tamen di gushi, not this kind of disgusting and creepy man. I'm tired of yuri manga being consumed mostly by men and not sapphic women, it just shows how much men see us as objects for their fun. To the men in the replies: Sincerely, as a lesbian, I'm really tired of of you fetishizing us. Please rethink about what you're doing because it's gross, for god's sake!

I don't know why you felt the need to go this far over this innocent 4-page doujin, but I'll address it anyway.

At least for non-pornographic yuri, yuri historically has not been consumed by mostly men. A common misconception, but false nonetheless. Also, it's a plain fact that yuri manga is mostly written by women, and it's the creators who...well, create the content, not the consumers*.

Also, what was disgusting and creepy about this guy? He's just enjoying a mobile game with a friend, then someone else comes and tells him to back off because she likes that girl, and when he realizes that he just thinks it's cute. What, is he not allowed to be happy that a gyaru treats him like a peer and a human being? Is he supposed to be against a girl liking another girl? He's clearly a bit awkward, but since when is that a crime?

In closing: yes, fetishization of lesbians is a problem that exists. But at least direct your anger where it's actually worth having it.

*An inb4: There's an argument to be made that consumer demand will drive what content is created, and thus if sexy yuri is what sells it will be what is created, but there are issues with that here: 1, if that were the case, you'd likely be seeing more men drawing yuri manga than we have. 2, yuri isn't exactly such a thriving market that artists need to do this kind of thing in order to eat; they draw yuri because they want to.

Also well notably some of the sexy yuri are also made by women creators. There are women who enjoy sexy content, and women who don't. Just like there's men that are the same. I think the current Yuri market is honestly pretty even between sexy and wholesome content.

I also think sexy can be well written, and men can be involved. Sunstone is primarily a lesbian comic made by a man, and I at least believe it's generally well received by numerous demographics, largely because of it's character writing.

Another point I'll add is that a LOT of peoples fav yuri series wether they are men or women, are series with zero or very little nsfw content like girl friends etc- so its clearly NOT just about perving at lesbians for most yuri fans- they like the romance/relationships, character interactions aspects the most.

And I feel railing at guys who like yuri is kinda.. misdirecting the ire at people who would support gay people that I'd rather send to those who HATE yuri because they are homophobic.

Also- I assume you have just as much a problem with the mountains of fujoshi who love BL and far outnumber yuri fans?
And I guess gays and lesbians are not allowed to consume straight media either huh?
That seems like a good way to alienate people. You'd rather guys hate it?

Personally I dont care WHO consumes WHAT as long as they are not causing problems somehow with how they go about it.

I don't know if it's my fault, but to clarify some misunderstanding, I'm a lesbian who loves any type of yuri. And about the male friend, I meant there needs to be more of someone like Mophead and Cerik, the homies. The wingman to their female friend. I love yuri more than anything, but I love new story ideas the most. Because if the story has the usual tropes and whatnot, I would feel like I read them a thousands time already.

Yeah Yuri often seems to sell so much less than Yaoi does, so it's nice when people support it regardless of who they are.

You're fine. Personally I think it's less about the usual tropes and clichés, and more about the quality of the writing, or even if it's just fun/entertaining. I would completely agree that uncommon or rare spins on the usual are often very enjoyable. I say this mainly because pretty much everything has been more or less written to an extent, and everything will have certain tropes and clichés. It's pretty much the nature of writing and the sharing of ideas, inspiration and so fourth. Most modern writing in some way, even indirectly, pulls from the likes of Shakespeare, and his massive influence over the writing world. Shakespeare himself wasn't even entirely original. Just some interesting food for thought in my opinion, sorry if I rambled a bit here.

but but but 1st u violate free will, u cannot forbid what ppl think in own mind, 2st womans WANT that kind of fame , they wanted to be stared, womans are most furious if they ignored as sexual beauty.
and calling male as creep gross otakut it is fetishizing, so u are not different of them, so what the point of hate ? universe is cold thing what dont give a fuck of humans existence, so we better dont create more misery throught hate as we are

Well this thread seems to have gone to weird places, as for the story itself, it seems pretty innocuous, the otaku was a bit of a stereotypical 'creepy guy who is also a masochist' but it's a short story, I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking from it.

Moderator Note

No more meta discussion in this thread, please. Let's stick to the topic at hand - this four page doujin. Yuri is for everyone, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, or anything else. bakatare, it is possible to both state one's feelings of discomfort with certain types of objectification while also not calling out broad groups of people in an inflammatory manner. I'd highly suggest acquainting yourself with those other possibilities.

If anyone wishes to continue this discussion, please head to the Cafe, or make a new thread. Thank you, take care. (and as the credits say, wash your hands!)

^Yeah, to get back on topic- he seemed kinda sweet in the first few pages, and I felt bad for the guy when she was berating him and being a bit mean.. I know it was because she was jelous but still- he didnt do anything wrong.
Then he went a bit otaku creepy in the last 2 pags lol.

There needs to be more male characters like Otaku in yuri. Too often they only exist to create drama but not Otaku for he is a wingman who wants to see yuri bloom.

Theres a manga about that

I'm wondering if, somewhere on the internet, there's a random manga title generator utitlity that artists can click on when they want ideas for a oneshot.

It's always nice when a yuri can have a man in it, have him be a friend in it or something, and not use him as an excuse for drama.

Yuri needs more guys like Mophead from Tamen De Gushi. Friggin love that guy.

agree

Quit making multiple posts in a row. If you need to add something to your post use the edit button. It kinda exists for a reason. Several posts in a row for one line replies makes things more difficult to read.

I struggle to recommend Yuri danshi because it actually kind of is about that sort of Otaku creep personality that people are talking about here.
