Holy shit, I saw that same exact panel and was immediately struck, "Hey wait, I know that face don't I?!" And wasn't even surprised when I saw Yukino Plan as this author's other work. They seem to have.... a type... though I have nothing against that type, on the contrary, GIVE ME MORE.

I wouldn't use "useless lesbian" here, one is obvious a hopeless lesbian for her friend while the other seems to be indifferent, like she could take having their friendship going to the next level or keep it as is. Also, they are young (looks to me like middle school?) so they can get a pass on "useless lesbian", it's the adults that truly deserve the term "useless lesbian".

I get the feeling from your comment that you haven't read chapter 0. Don't worry, I also thought chapter 1 and 2 were the only ones until I looked at the series page.

My point was that because of Yukino Plan all of this author's happy faces automatically look creepy.

If the title were true (without chapter 0) this would be very depressing. After reading chapter 0 the whole thing became very weird, and maybe almost just as sad, though. The plot seems to be that Maya can't understand anything about love after the kindergarten trauma and repressing her feelings completely for Yuina during elementary school. Or she just refuses to understand and keeps a straight face because the girl she loves is not "gross/weird/etc." Still quite depressing... Here's hoping they'll have a very happy future as they overcome this and that will make it a nice read moving forward.

The title isn't very accurate though is it? I mean Is it really unrequited when they are both in love with each other? They have not told each other, sure, but that doesn't make it unrequited- just not shared yet.

Yuina is very openly affectionate but it doesn't seem like she has actually confessed properly, and Maya is keeping her feelings hidden because she thinks they will cause Yuina trouble, but they do both feel the same :)
