as i wonder why yuri as a genre is so repetitive and filled with generic drama, being nothing more than a romance subgenre... then i see comments like these once in a while... and makes me realize... it might not get any better any time soon.
Um...hate to tell you this, but yuri is a romance subgenre. So is yaoi. At least when they're not being porn subgenres. Being invested in the characters' love lives is sort of the point.
Not that this says it has to be bad or repetitive, that's on the individual authors, and I definitely agree that the (sub)genre could use a lot of work expanding the subject matter. It is happening, far as I can see from stuff going up on Dynasty, but it's slow going.
You don't have to tell me, I already know. And gripe about it frequently. I've read/seen everything, even after i was bored of it all.
You CAN have lesbian characters in something that isn't just the usual yuri romance-drama. Personally, I am really having trouble caring for anything with a plot, cuz its all just the same shit that i read over and over and over... Melodramatic soap operas... Everywhere...
Even as a subgenre it's rather contrived into being so samey. Little to no variety in comparison with so many het romance out there.
But even when we get something thats seemingly different...
Yuri in a mech series? they end up in a love triangle / b-but we are both girls drama.
Yuri in a fantasy/adventure series? they end up in a love triangle / b-but we are both girls drama.
