Shinobu is naive but perceptive, small but surprisingly tough. Meanwhile Kagami is taller and has some power over her, but she's only two years older and she can get scared or flustered easily. It balances out pretty well.

I liked how the moment where Kagami decides to reveal the truth to Shinobu is one where the two are literally brought to the same level, after Shinobu helped Kagami climb the tree.

Man, that chapter was actually really creepy. Indou clearly is not okay with what Kagami is doing, but she's trapped. Due to her rank and reputation, Kagami can literally do whatever she want to Indou and get away with it.

And yet and yet. As with many behaviors depicted in manga, objectively it’s creepy but it doesn’t feel particularly creepy.

It feels more like Indou is a magical yuri Chosen One and Kagami is the first devotee to fall under her spell.

(And I suspect that the ghost of Col. Mom may be giving the pair her blessing from the Great Beyond.)

I think that, as Doctor Hoot says, Indou is less “not okay” with what Kagami did than she is confused about what the whole business means. She’s incredibly naive and has had a very, very isolated and impoverished upbringing, while Kagami is sending out world-class tsundere mixed messages that would baffle a much more sophisticated kouhai.

Her reaction to the kiss is less, “Oh, no—this is wrong” and more “WTF?”

I think Kagami is more the one with the problem than Indou.

Indou is experiencing something for the first time and is trying to work out how to handle it.

Kagami, on the other hand, seems to have a genuine issue that is not yet addressed. She obviously likes Indou as she has said as much, so perhaps it is due to her rank or something else. And nah, I've not read the spoilers, so don't direct me to them. I like to be surprised! :)

I feel like her rank is probably just an excuse to distract from an underlying plot thread that hasn't been introduced yet. If it was just her rank than the solution is too easy, and the story would be too cliche. This story definitely pays homage to a lot of older girls' school yuri stories, but it doesn't feel like it's using the cliches as a crutch, but as more of a cover for the real story. It's clever, and I like it.
