She's reading "Bright and cheery amnesia"!
Well even if there isn't any yuri in this series at least Neeko is a yuri fan.

@Nevri

Yep, I know the feeling. That said, I'm more trying to seek the reasons behind why it makes people so depressed, why the lack of sense, the lack of purpose affects us so much? Still, the distraction and the gratification are there to make you want to go on. The fact that you use all of your energy just to keep on living means something about death.

Anyway, it was basically the idea I was trying to convey and I know it's not a simple life. It's just easy for people to judge and think you're having it easy because you're not doing much - just like one of the user here was thinking and I found it unfair.

Edit Thinking back to what you said, this sounds more like depression and what causes it than the particular mindset of a neet (of course it's closely related). To be honest, I'm not even sure that finding a job could cure this mindset. A good activity or a good relationship could to the trick, sure, but wouldn't need to be a job. After all, depressed people who are actively contributing to society are not unheard of.

All you have to do is stop giving her money to buy manga and video games see what happens.

Edit: She likes reading yuri... suddenly the story got a lot more interesting hahaha

Yeah, try 28 and unemployed.

Though in my defense I just got into college, so... xD

Neeko reads yuri! That's good. Maybe she'll be influenced.

I don't like the turn this manga takes.

It just pokes fun at someone with a serious problem, instead of addressing solutions. Like you'd see someone slipping and falling in the street and you'd point and laugh instead of helping.

I wouldn't say it's poking fun at her quite like that. It's going for the kind of black comedy where you're supposed to sympathize with the victim, with the hunor coming from relating to their misfortune.

And is that Touhou on her left? It looks like Marisa in the top right, but it is not quite clear enough to make out the other characters for certain.

Edit: It looks like it could be Kanako in the bottom right.

It just shows what is happening to numerous people while trying to keep it light-hearted, in my opinion.

I think that's actually healthy, to take it philosophically. Picturing both the good and the bad sides of the situation and perhaps providing a solution or a good outcome in the end : be it by getting a job or finding another way of living.

She bought a book to help her find a job (good for her! because no one else seems willing to help), is that doesn't help or in the next chapters the author "pretends" or "forgot" that she did it, then the whole plot of this manga might be to make fun of her.

That works for some mangas, like WataMote but at least Kuroki had a friend from the beginning and she also had that senpai who would cheer her up from time to time and in the latest chapters little by little she managed to gather a group of friends and even a stalker and that made it slightly more bearable to read even when a lot of bad things keep happening to her. I would be really worried if by the end of the first volume nothing good happens to Neeko.

Japan's been slow to get used to it. In Vietnam, in China, there's still upward mobility and generational improvement. Not so much in Japan, but people haven't adjusted. Much like the US, Japan acts as if there were still jobs for everyone and if you can't find one right away, that's entirely on you.

ALSO: "If she can't even become an OL, how will she find a husband???" (Is, I think, in the background).

Since it's mentioned that she did go to interviews, but just never got called back after, I'm not sure buying that book really changes her lifestyle in any way.

I just want to know how Neeko manages that kind of body on a NEET lifestyle.

Yeah it does remind me of watamote in that regard, and people brought up the same issue when it first started if Tomoko's plight was meant to be mean spirited or not. Also remember that it took over 70 chapters before Tomoko saw some actual progress in the friend department.

Neeko is barely on it's 3rd chapter by comparison lol, so its still a bit early for her.

Surely they have credit cards in Japan...? But that face on https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/its_tough_being_neeko_ch03#14 made me laugh.

Well... hard to characterise the third chapter. First two seemed light and funny, and her annoyance with other people seemed to stem mostly from her perceiving them as looking down on her, or just being annoyed they are 'moving forward', while she is not. This time, though, for some reason, all this looks like a far more genuine anxiety issue she is having. Strangely, that makes the scenes more hilarious.

I hate to say it, but I can't get over how attractive Neeko is.

Both her and her sister. And their mom, come to think of it. Good genes, lol. Is anywhere stated how old is Imoko? Neeko says that "she was still in elementary school until just a while ago", but that means little beyond "14 or above".

She's not reading it because it's yuri. She's reading it because it's comic Cune, the magazine her own series is published in, which just happens to also be where Amnesia is published. That's just the cover of last month's issue. And while it is a fairly yuri-strong magazine, it also runs a number of straight romance series. The pile of magazines behind her is topped with the maiden issue from over two years ago. Which as I recall had an original cover by the author of Hinako Note.

Based on the author's comment, the comic she is in the process of reading seems to just be the first doujinshi the author ever made. Solely for the purpose of a joke. Though I can't find it anywhere to check. (Pretty much every doujinshi the author has ever done is straight porn, so if that bothers you, be careful.)

Pretty much every mangaka that draws nice looking bodies or curvy figures have drawn ecchi stuff or porn before so I'm not surprised.

Also why in the world would you dirty your manga/book by using chopsticks to turn the page?? That's been in soup so it's going to have oil that you do not want on your paper.
