Noice. Always was my favorite New Mutant. Still have the first issue where he showed up, stashed somewhere in a box in a closet.
I loved the original artist for Warlock so damn much. A lot of the ones that followed never really caught that same look.
That would be the one and only Bill Sienkiewicz. I tried to find his version of Warlock earlier today via a Google image search, but came up empty. Which is a shame, because Sienkiewicz's Warlock was truly alien, in a way that the Art Adams version (i.e. the way he has been drawn for the past 30 years) isn't.
Ah, right. Sienkiewicz. I wasn't that hot on a lot of his other art, but his Warlock was absolutely outstanding, in the way that it managed to be both alien, as you say, but also whimsical with a creative side. There have been an artist or two who do a good Warlock, but I don't think there's been anyone to come close to Bill's.
