It's probably a case of "non blood related aunt" because of family issues.

This really was sweet! Although as great as Canada is, I don't think they'll allow marriage between an aunt and niece...

Just took a look, and that appears to be accurate. First cousins can marry (although it's socially looked down upon) but you can't marry your niece or nephew.

Good Work Nez, doing the dirty work for us.

Slaving over a hot Google.

It was pretty cute. I'm curious how the whole mc's "let's go along with it so she will stay" thing will be solved, though I expect cliche "fell for you for real" conclusion.

I'm surprised Itsuki snapped and told the truth, but it was almost immediately hand waved with "You were jealous? So you love me after all!" so in the end it was cliche "fell for you for real" as I expected ;x

Better than the cliché "I like boys after all and found true het love at the mixer, so let's just be friends from now on." in my opinion ^^;

Well any yuri is better than het, but it wouldn't hurt if it was solved in a better way ;x

There might be someplace that would let you marry your niece if there was no possibility of having children. Then they'd just have to convince someone that they couldn't have children. (So that could actually benefit them. But what about science babies?)

It's probably a case of "non blood related aunt" because of family issues.

That is likely possible, considering in many asian culture it's normal to call a stranger in relative phase. If it's a close neighbor's daughter then you would instantly become an aunt, non-relatively.

It's pretty clear from the story that Nina is the child of her mom's sister, who married a gaijin in Canada. Not to mention, a lot of the comedy parts rely on them actually being aunt aunt and niece for real.

I do respect the impulse to find a loophole that makes everything work, though. It's the mark of a true yuri fan.

I just realized it's only 2 parts. I was enjoying + expecting too much. Oh God this is a good shots.

Wait, but if it goes Itsuki > Mother > Mother's sister in Canada > Nina, then it makes them cousins, not aunt and niece. Nina's mother has to be of the same generation as Itsuki, like a sister or a cousin, for Itsuki to be an "aunt".

Oh, I might be wrong that it's the mom's sister. It uses her given name, which suggests that it's close family so maybe Nina's mom is the MC's much older sister.

^ I don't know how it is in other countries, but here, for Itsuki to be an aunt, Nina has to be the daughter of Itsuki's sister/brother. The mother is the mother both to Itsuki and her sister/brother.

Well my niece is 3 months older than my brother.
My oldest sister and youngest brother are 22 years apart. So it's a plausible scenario.

I know it's a plausable scenario. My aunt is 2 years older than me. I'm just saying that if they're niece-aunt it's impossible for Nina's mom to be the sister of Itsuki's mom, she has to be the daughter of Itsuki's sister. If they are not actually niece-aunt is another matter and they chose to refer to each other like that, though I imagine Itsuki (the author) would've said that they aren't really niece-aunt.

Oh, I totally agree. I'm 'almost' certain Yukiko is Itsuki's sister. Going by the vague information we're given :p There is no other way they can be aunt-niece otherwise... Well, 'blood related' aunt-niece

Edit: I deleted my previous comment as being extraneous and too off topic.

Still off topic.

Nezchan, I'm curious. Did the Canadian healthcare system pay for any part of your transition? In the USA there are basically no insurance companies that will pay for anything connected with the transition, since it's a "voluntary" (yeah right) procedure.

I'd actually rather not get into that for reasons. Sorry.

But in general, healthcare does pay for doctors and specialists like endocrinologists, and in some provinces at least it pays for surgery. That part varies since healthcare is administered on a provincial level so it's not quite the same across the board. Generally though, they don't cover drugs so hormones tend to be either out of pocket or covered under private plans.

Eh? I didn't know you were trans*, Nez. Nor did I know you lived in Canada. Where do you live? I live in Ontario. There's hardly any gay, bi, or pan women where I live. It's disgusting how transphobic everyone is, even in a progressive country like Canada. I keep having to tell Mom to refer to Caitlyn Jenner by the correct pronoun. You should've seen my mom when I tried to explain to her how there's over ten different genders out there :P.

Sorry for getting off topic >_<. Anyways, I don't think first cousins or aunts and nieces can get married here. Then again, my great grandmother and great grandfather were supposedly first cousins. Eww. Don't tell me inbreeding doesn't cause problems, cause their children all suffer from anxiety disorders and other issues. I mean, my grandma didn't tell my dad what his real name was until he was in his thirties! Turned out that his first name was really his middle name, and his middle name was really his first name! And don't forget about how my great aunt told my cousin the wrong middle name. How do you even forget your kids' names!?

I'm not sure why this is labelled incest. It even says in the flashbacks that their families were neighbours.

I tried reading through the thread to figure out if Itsuki and Nina are blood relatives and now I'm even more confused than when I started.

Canada is where cute girls go to become adult lesbians. Believe it!

So THAT's why everyone seems to love the place. No wonder.

Hah! And I bet you thought it was for the healthcare!

Must be one heck of a healthcare if girls go lesbian for it.

I live in canada and almost all the girls here are straight, which sucks cause its kinda hard to find a girlfriend. [But the healthcare is pretty awesome!]

Um, almost all the girls are straight basically everywhere. It's unfortunate, but true. The only place where you can't swing a cat without hitting a lesbian is in yuri manga. This is why yuri manga is better than the real world.

On the other hand, there are actually a lot more lesbians (and gay men, bisexuals, asexuals, trans people, and queer folk of all sorts) than it seems at first glance, because many people are still living under the delusion that cis heterosexuality is the only rational/moral/natural sexuality. For those of us who remember the late 20th century, the amount of visibility and acceptance that QUILTBAG people have nowadays is absolutely breathtaking. (At least in civilized places like the EU and Canada, and semi-civilized places like America and Japan.)
