I don't see anyone acting prude here. Just, I think you don't get at all that there can be something intellectual, or emotional, in that kind of practices. Sex, or getting off, is not necessarily the goal there.

Sex is a good thing; but acting as though S&M is purely a fetish is severely mitigating the worth of people who largely define themselves as sadists or masochists.

Have you ever read Shelly's Frankenstein? Did you know that Frankenstein and the Creature are in a bondage relationship (and it switches who plays what role at a number of times throughout the novel)? If you know that much, you are aware enough that BDSM is not strictly sexual.

Err... it never crossed my mind that it's a bad thing. It's just not the only thing that drives people.

BDSM can be connected to sex or doesn't have to be. You can just tie someone and for example spank them, you can make them be your personal slaves - for example doing house chores and other non-sexual stuff for you. There are even some people who don't like sex, but enjoy submission or dominance. So it's not about being prudes, I actually enjoy erotic yuri mangas a lot if they are good, but no, not every BDSM relationship has to be sexual.

Indeed, I was talking to someone on Twitter about this, and they couldn't even wrap their head around it. She couldn't imagine how being an M (which she is) could be at all sexual. Sure a lot of yuri manga/doujins have sex together with BDSM, but that's more of a function of mangaka getting this kind of thing wrong pretty often, or just wanting to use it to de-vanilla the porn they were going to do anyway.
