Just tell the truth to the mother. She should then understand the one who is suffering is actually her daughter.
This is complicated on both sides:
I'm surprised Miwa turned down Kenichiro. It takes an extremely deep thinking and decision making to REVERSE your initial rushed decision and choose a woman you love in exchange of having children. He probably later figured out in the very long run children are not worth to have in exchange of Miwa. Miwa may not understand Kenicihiro can be miserable by marrying someone else just to have children. It will not be fair to that future wife. It may not even be fair to the children.
Meanwhile Miwa decision to turn down Kenichiro is also logical. She does not know if Kenichiro REALLY think hard and deep to reverse his decision, or merely wants to get back together and ignore the elephant until he cannot ignore anymore years from now.
The initial break up is a knew jerk reaction. It is actually understandable. People act without thinking deeply out of shock. I did not know exactly how Miwa presented the information to Kenichiro the first time. How you present it can make totally different outcomes.
Finally An was adopted. So unless Kenichiro insisted to have a blood offspring, then the having children part of the equation is already solved if he marries Miwa.
The only information we do not know is whether Kenichiro ever told Miwa that having children is part of his idea of marriage and cannot be changed. Seeing Kenichiro liking children does not proof that. But the marriage+children condition must be known well beforehand. It is stupidity on both side that the initial breakup even happens. They either should have broken up long time ago, or kept dating as if the infertility is just a shared condition. (He should treat Her inability to have children means his inability to have children).
Miwa however DID notice one thing that may be a key for a good reason to turn down a re-union. If Kenichiro really changed his mind, he would have absolutely refused to attend an arrange marriage meeting. Just by going along half heartedly meant he had a tiny percentage of hope to find the right woman. Instead he should be the one who stopped dating of any type and be the one who contacted Miwa first.
We still don't know what kind of role Akane has right now. I think we will now find out soon.
A personal note: I actually had experienced Kenichiro's situation, around the same age. The difference was I did not do a knee jerk reaction, although indeed it was hard to take. I just took in the information, took all the time I needed (a week), learned and researched the subject, conduct my thinking in a cold manner, did not change my interaction manner towards the other person, and I made my choice eventually. I knew by then my choice would be final and I took the time to explain it. In fact it also required the other person to understand and agreed to it. It was not a one way street, but rather an agreement out of both of our own free will.
I wonder if Kenichiro ever thought about what if later in life he found out he himself shoots blank? That would be poetic justice.
