But this first episode was interesting and it's got an agegap which I usually love so will give this a few chapters to see how it fleshes out.

can't believe it took me the whole evening to figure out that it's meant to be read Maou-sama, Riri Revenge because Riri is taking out the frustration of Ooma chickening out their whole first lives. If there's one thing Ooma is never going to quite adapt to it'll be that she's not in charge of this relationship lmao.

I think it has more to do with the norms of psuedo-feudal society these scenarios are built around. As his retainer/servant, she does not have the right to take the first move on someone of higher station (and even if she had a noble background of her own, her liege lord is at least one step above that), save through implication.

I understand this but we are still talking about a fictional scenario where things are more lax for plot convenience (like most manga, historical or not), so using real life logic of how things were it’s not enough, for me at least obviously

If I read things correctly, it seems like they use masculine pronouns when referring to their past life, as the demon lord, but feminine/gender neutral pronouns when referring to themselves in the present.
