Both true. But that doesn't cover more people than those that are praising it, so I'm still not buying the "everyone these days is just too lazy to read!" statement; at least among those that bothered to comment it seems people are pretty fine with reading and enjoying it ;)

I was specifically replying to sheska since their outright stated that reading books is pointless. Since you replied saying how this is trash and they were right to not read it, you can forgive me for thinking you were agreeing with them. And I was talking more in general, because similar attitude is pretty common nowadays. Sure there are people here who read it, but there is also some totally turned off by idea of it being mostly text or that it is uploaded on dynasty at all (which puzzles me since they can simply ignore it, but whatever).

It makes for a good read if you take it for what lightnovels are: light reading

Yeah, and that's why I wasn't sure how critical I wanted to be - the translation at least is clearly not at fault (compared to some others). But I have read a lot of light/web novels. And there's still a large difference between something that at least makes up for simple prose and run-away pace by being original, by being tense, by taking surprising twists and turns ...

Do we even are sure it is light novel? I know it has manga styled images, but I'm pretty sure nowadays even writers of normal novels ask for "manga art" for their covers. I'm wondering because light novels are usually meant to be long running series and this one seems to be closed with just 1 volume. Either way, light novel are not meant to be trash. They are meant to be easy and fast to read, but that doesn't mean they can't be well written. Sure, plot in this one isn't really anything super original, but I liked it for what it was. It introduced and developed its main character nice and it flowed well for the most part. It had few flaws I mentioned already, but overall it did a good job at doing what it set out to do. And if we consider it being part smut, it did good job on 1 out of 2 sex scenes. You're making it sounds like every single work has to be either very unique and original or incredibly tense and full of things going on. The most important part is execution. It was simple prose and run-away, but I think it was executed relativity well. I didn't mind initial slow pace as it let things build up and sink in. I can understand if you are not impressed because you already saw it enough times, but that doesn't mean the work itself is bad because of it. That is more what I meant before, there is no 1 set way to judge whatever something is good or bad. It's all subjective and will work differently depending on person.

This is just a bit of porn with a bunch of classic LN tropes. And even for porn there's better. Well. Minus the cute illustrations, maybe.

I'm curious which LN tropes you meant exactly, as I failed to notice self insert otaku without personality send to different world and gaining all possible powers imaginable, because he is a chosen one mentioned in old prophecy and because of that all ladies are suddenly attracted to him and want to fuck him, but he can't choose one and anyway he made a oath he will have sex only after marriage so he has to reject and avoid getting raped by all of them before he marries one of them. I didn't see big breasted onee-san, flat chested tsundere, deadpan loli, sexy older lady and so on. But I might missed something.

This is just Ocarina of Time with a female protag.

And without the ocarina.

So I don't know too much about Half-Elves but do they have that much stamina? You know like surviving a few days without food plus having two session with the princess?

Wow there's so much heated debate! I just wanna say, though it isn't Pulitzer Prize worthy, I really liked this LN it makes for good light reading. And wow those sex scenes made my cheeks burn, whew~ I hope chapter 2 will be uploaded here!

Do we even are sure it is light novel? (...) Either way, light novel are not meant to be trash.

Light novel categorization is fairly arbitrary. Twelve Kingdom isn't. Haruhi or Spice & Wolf are. Whatever. It's how it is; and this one is one, I'm fairly sure.

And you are right, they aren't supposed to be trash. They usually aren't written to win literature prizes either, though (well, except for light novel prizes ^^). Gotta adjust expectations, esp. if it's smut.

It introduced and developed its main character nice and it flowed well for the most part. It had few flaws I mentioned already, but overall it did a good job at doing what it set out to do. And if we consider it being part smut, it did good job on 1 out of 2 sex scenes.

Well, I disagree. I don't think it did a particular good job at any of this. A barely passable one, maybe ;)

That is more what I meant before, there is no 1 set way to judge whatever something is good or bad. It's all subjective and will work differently depending on person.

IMO that's too often an excuse for bad fiction. "It's all subjective!" Well, it is, but so's everything else. "Killing is bad!" is subjective.

There's plenty of reasonable criteria you can use to judge a book. And separate a good one from a bad one (not saying that I'm an expert on it, because I'm not. But still ...).

Also, that doesn't mean that you can't enjoy bad fiction. I certainly do often enough. But it's like eating candy; I can still acknowledge that it's bad food and if that I only ever eat candy I'll get sick and starve and die ...

I'm curious which LN tropes you meant exactly, as I failed to notice self insert otaku ...

Heh. Well, that'd be all the new isekai harem trash. You wouldn't get me to read one of those if you put a gun on my head (well, you might, depends on how stubborn I am that day and whether the gun is loaded).
But it's still - like the Tree of Origin. Human-elf racism. The princess. Pseudo-medieval-fantasy setting. Bla. The one thing that gets a pass I'd say is the curse. Not that that's not done before too, but it's not such a completely overused aspect.

Besides, while the otaku isn't self-inserted, I feel fairly safe in claiming that this was nonetheless targeted at a male otaku readership. Their role this time is just voyeurism instead of self-insertion (not saying that's anything bad, just sayin').

I understand there are certain things people noticed to work the best and created different formulas for how to "write a good story". 3 act structure, heroes journey etc. What I meant is they are still just 1 way of writing stuff, they are just the most well know and explored. I'm not saying to write randomly, so you will be "original and unique" for the sake of it or "it's my style!". You should actually know what you're doing, so as long as you're doing things with purpose, you don't need to strictly follow all those established rules, as they are just 1 way to write a good story. Obviously I'm aware doing it is harder as you can't rely on well established formulas as well as you still need to be good writer first.

In the end whatever something is good or bad depends on the reader, because you can't say something is objectively bad, because there is no such thing. It is all just a opinion.

yall complain that this is a novel but look at where we are, 3 days later, the top of the most popular chart, beating 2nd place by more than almost 8000 views

edit: personally i felt this was okay. the writing is mediocre but the plot seems interesting so far

I'd say they are more of fantasy cliches than LN ones. I didn't read a lot fantasies, so I guess I'm not tired of those yet. And idea that humans hate elves is actually new to me, since I'm more used to elves being very arrogant and considering themselves superior race, so it was more of them looking down on humans rather than straight hating them. I don't think I saw humans hating elves back before.

So, if I scan the two LN of Renko x Maribel then maybe could translate them? (?)

So.. any way we could get this as an .epub?

Yay! I'm not the only one, I thought the world was going crazy. Reading full text from an image is goddamn awful, and pdf is not much better.

So.. any way we could get this as an .epub?

No idea what that is, but there is a PDF linked in the Sadpanda version.

An epub is a file format designed to distribute electronic publications, usually books (e-books), the bigger advantage is that the content is dynamically styled and can adapt to different screen sizes, pretty much like a web page, in fact it uses html tags and css, and is much more light on resources than pdf.

Because of that I made an epub version for anyone who cares
mega link
install a decent epub reader, my recommendation is moon reader on android (and put that next page animation to apple real page or something like that for that real book feeling), and compare the experience of reading epub to the pdf version.

I took the pdf version and used an online converter but I had to do a lot of manual corrections since the automatic conversion isn't perfect, I tried to respect the original formatting of the pdf and used the png images from here for better quality, also corrected a typo (page 11 "Expect for Rem").

If the translators are going to keep this project please consider releasing an epub version too, I wouldn't mind doing it myself is just that reading the whole thing in search for fuckups of the converter is really annoying especially for a work already done before.

Seriously... Just text? In a manga site? So this means that someone can write a cliche story in ms word, put a couple of draws in it and then it qualifies as manga? We've hit a new low...

Thanks for the feedback. I'm currently investigating ways to import as epub, and if everything goes as planned I'll have that version available alongside the pdf starting from next chapter.

Literal fucking garbage. Characters had no chemistry and sex felt forced.
Don't mind reading but come on we need better light novel yuri.

Was I the only one that genuinely liked this?
I mean I read/watched/played worse before and I didn't really care for the smut part as much as
'Is she gonna die of hunger or exhaustion first'
I don't know man, maybe my tastes became worse after reading so much bad stuff on here
or Cuz a lot of the VNs are just smut and cant make up a decent story
perhaps even the bad yuri animes are the cause of it for me
but I really thought this was a decent/good read for me, the character was a tiny bit different
from usual and I thought it was interesting
that all the elves just seemed like humans
The hate for the elves seemed realistic to some point too, thought this Light novel actually did
well for pointing that out, as to why the princess might hate her too
not just cuz he was almost stealing... idk
I just sort of liked it (?) At least I know I really wanted to finish reading it when I got home

The epub is still experimental, and I'd very much appreciate if you could point out any mistakes or errors you notice so that I can continue improving it. Same goes for the text itself too, of course. And yes, the first chapter should be updated too if possible.

i can't read yo
