Also if I understand correctly, the Akari from the past forced Chie to forget the Akari from the present, and when Chie erased the markings in her own book, they were able to be reunited. In which case that's a nice ending.

Akari (black-haired girl) found her own book and erased the moment of her break-up with Chieko (light-haired girl), warping Chieko's memories of Akari. It's only after Chieko erases the marks in Akari's book and makes her properly confront their falling out that the two of them are able to move on and be [friends, lovers] again.

That's the original Akari that found the library, altered her own book, and never came back out. She's presumably "replaced" by the new Akari that remembers the breakup and never went to/ended up escaping the library, just like how Chieko is "replaced" by a version of herself that remembers Akari and was studying by the window instead of searching for books in her notepad.
